Yea, but in Babylon5, they never would have gotten off the ground if it weren't for home PC's getting more and more power to crunch graphics. The first episodes were done using hot-rod Amigas! By the time they were finished, they were rocking Pentiums! I recall how much of a jump in graphics capability that was for my gaming computers at the time.

If B5 hadn't done it, BSG would likely not have been made into a mini-series, much less the series that followed.

The first two seasons of B5 looked a lot more "cheezy" and "wooden" than the later ones, in part probably because of the artists getting a better feel for what they were doing, and also because of the extra computer power. And yet, I still think it looks very good even today...I just wish someone had a story worth telling, and backing to do it.

IMO, if Ron Moore and Micheal Strazinsky could team up, for something completely new... and ditch SyFy's limitations, go to some other distribution method, I think they could create something massively popular. AND quality. We don't even need to discuss graphics or special effects anymore, that's pretty much a given. But talent to create a worthwhile story...that's what's seemingly quite rare today. And less appreciated by industry, yet more appreciated by fans and the public.

TBH they COULD, take BSG Exodus Episodes, Amp them up a lil, (extend w/ back story etc). do a directors cut around 2 hours, and put it in theaters as a Movie....

I agree this battle scene was probably the most intense of the series - especially since by this point we're all pretty emotionally engaged in the characters.

I also got chills when I first heard Adama say to his crew "It was an honor serving with you all" when it seemed apparent that the Galactica wasn't going to survive.

Simply epic stuff.

From the moment they get it on, its pretty much an amazing ride and as I said, when the Galactica came into orbit, "falling like a rock"... biggrin

As for B5 and jms (haven't seen him for way over one year in the newsgroup but I know he is very active on FB these days...), last year he was in the NYCC and said:

"“I said to Warner Bros. a while back... ["F off"], 'When you’re ready to do something real with 'Babylon 5,' either a big-budget film or a TV show, if you want to do one of those two things, call me, otherwise don’t bother me.' About a month ago the phone rang. I don’t know where this is gonna go yet, but when they call you, there’s something going on. I can’t tell you what it is yet and it may not go anywhere, but there is movement in the tall grass.”

I vist JMS's fanpage on FB almost daily and yes he is indeed very active there. He's even responded to a couple of my posts on there. As for future B5 projects, I would absolutely love to see new stuff. One thing I DON'T want though is a remake/reboot of the show.

I'll literally believe it when I see it. When The Memory of Shadows collapsed, and we had the deaths of Katsulas and Choate and Biggs, and then Lost Tales fell apart, I gave it up.

Until it hits a screen, any talk of scripts or casting or money is just that...talk.

Sad but hopeful.

That said...I'm very glad that B5 actually managed to finish at all, considering they were on the edge of cancellation from day one to the last season!

I'm infinitely grateful that Babylon 5 started when it did because had it started post 2000 it would have never survived beyond its first season.

The guys behind SG-1 said the same thing. Each year they never knew if it would be the last, so they sort of planned accordingly...until the final season when they thought they'd have TWO years, so it didn't wrap up properly. At least they got the 2 TV movies to wrap it up a bit.
