The problem though is still anti-piracy being conflated with censorship, censorship is mentioned in the first Wall Street Journal link. Censorship is what China does- i.e., monitor Internet use and block someone from blogging or saying something online because it doesn't meet with pre-approved standards. That's not in itself what anti-piracy measures are, although I can see why some people deliberately mix the two.

You can freely criticize SOPA/PIPA, it would be censorship if you couldn't. It's a different thing to go after file sharing.

Anyone want to chip in $10 - I'm taking down a few sites today.

I'll take the risk of filing a bad person police report through my traceable internet connection (protip: Sandra Bullock wasn't really using the computer in Hackers). Let's boil that frog nice and slowly..

People are aware of what the government can do. The government could declare martial law and shoot you dead if it wanted to. I also think it can be overraching to declare something like this end of all freedom and the beginning of a blackout. [/quote]

You're right, things will probably be fine I expect.

Don't suppose you have a website online do you Kontakt5? I would love a look..

What blows my mind is how even the writers/supporters don't even know what it does or how it works!! All it boils down to is that most of the supporters have "stock" in these big giant corps. that are the reason the bill exists. Probably why none of the major news outlets mentioned it much either.

Mel Watts - Ranking member of Intellectual Property sub-commitee:

Oct 27, 2011 Press release
Quote:
"Solving the problem of online piracy and counterfeiting is a serious challenge which will require ongoing dialogue and consideration of a number of issues. The bill is a good start that will help focus that dialogue and consideration. I encourage all stakeholders to continue to provide their input and advice as we attempt to develop a final product expeditiously."

and...
Dec. 15, 2011 House hearing
Quote:
"From my perspective as an old country boy; and this is the only way I can understand this complex stuff...we need parallels in the virtual world, uh, to what we have in the real world; and this bill draws the appropriate balance"

Interesting.
