From Creepycrawl on the a2a BoB2 forum

"
I would just like to express on the forum how happy I am with the game.

Just today I joined a campaign mission as a bf-109 pilot (as a fin I'm a dedicated axis pilot). I was the top cover for stukas who got to bomb the convoy with no interruptions by the RAF. I took my flight on the continent and happened to notice an airfield with about 20 hurricanes sitting in it. I was circling it for a bit trying to figure out the severeness of AA when I noticed that the rest of the fighter cover found its way there (I wasn't the squadron leader or anything) and started diving in towards the airfield. Most Hurricanes got destroyed right there on the field and on my second dive I got hit by AA quite severely. On my way home I happened to surprise another hurricane and score the second kill of the mission.

What a beautiful game... The campaign mode is something that no other WW2 simulator that I've ever seen can offer.

After gleeming over the net and finally reading your posts here, I ordered my copy of BoB II last night.
The fact that you can run the 'war room' drew my attention. And I understand it's AI is fairly intelligent.
Can anyone confirm this.
It appears my collection of WWII sim stuff is growing here at the house.
MSCB 1
MSCB 3
IL-2 1946

With so much on my plate and so little upstairs anymore, it takes me alot longer to get through a manual(pdf) and fully grasp the whole sim. Some places I've read that the AI in MSCB was a joke. My little experience w/these agrees.
IL-1946, the AI seemed to be ready to engage w/o me having to tell them to. That's what I'd prefer.

My copy arrived yesterday. Nice box and pristine disc. 10 Bucks US.

Loaded w/no issues.
Started off configuring all setting to novice and low-end graphics...
Sweet...
Flipped graphics over to high side...Super sweet, but using AA, it would frame down in the clouds..
Flipped weather graphics over to medium...left everything else on high, and WOW....I LOVE THIS SIM !!!
However, I have the damnedest time trying to recognize an air field from any point of view.
Been in Falcon, Jane's F18, and IL-2 long enough to think I could at least spot an airfield to touch down.
But NO.....I'm buzzin' around up here just kickin' myself in the pants-
And I'm amazed at how quick the program loads into memory and back to the desktop.
I mean 'CLICK' and your at the menu interface...
'CLICK' and your back to the desktop. I've never witnessed any windows program do this before.
And I haven't even patched it yet.
I see 2.11 is out. Are there any patching issues I should follow? My system is near the low end.
Although, it handles IL-2 and BoB w/ease. Thank God!
All in all, this is one terrific addition to my WWII collection. I'm grateful I found this forum, to boot!

Now, one question-
What version number was the last 'OFFICIAL' patch released

With a lower end system, you definitely want to knock down the
bdg.txt entry "LANDSCAPE_TEXTURE_SIZE = 2048" to "= 1024"
This will keep the performance closer to what you are getting
with the unpatched program. Note that the original cd is from
2005 (v2.01); a current cd from A2A is I think v2.06, the last
official A2A sponsored patch level, and from about 2007. v2.11
is from 2011, and has heavily advanced the graphics with higher
res textures and 3D ground objects. It takes quite a good machine
to run at high settings. Key settings in the Options GUI are
Particle Density - the most futureproofed entry, no machine can cope
with a setting of "Full" when ground AA opens up. Choose medium or low;
Ground Object Density - non-essential 3D objects; Horizon Distance -
cut it back if you get "stuttering" when turning with the horizon in
view, especially at higher altitudes.

Rodger that, I noticed a slight fps drop after installing 2.11-
Of course, why wouldn't I-
The landscape changed 4 fold, it was obvious. I had to readjust my AA and Anisotropic setting because
more information was on the screen and being distorted.
The disk I have loaded 2.04, by the way.

Oh...I got this on the screen after exiting ver 2.11-

So what do I do with this set of error messages?

Do BoB users w/lower end systems have a favorite patch that they cling to...?
In my position, I'd like to examine stability/AI performance increases.
Obviously, I haven't had the program long enough to find any real fault.
Except that the AI planes tend to defy physics and twitch as they change direction/course/pursuit.
They just 'ZIP' or 'Twist' quickly and they're on a new heading. Not smooth and fluid as
it would normally be. Is there a patch that addresses this queer behavior..?
Thanks-
Ed

Can you edit the soundtrack sequences used within the program.
I think some Moonlight Serenade tied to some Moonlight Becomes You and Stormy Weather would do nicely as the backdrop audio for the menus/campaign. At least for the american market anyway-
