There are some concerts that stand out in history, with so much talent assembled on stage it's a wonder the stage doesn't collapse under all of it. I really wish I had been able to attend some of them. My favourites are these:
Concert for George Harrison from 2001.. Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Jeff Lynne, Ray Cooper and others on stage, singing ol' Georges songs.
Billy Preston does justice to My Sweet Lord.. I get chills!
I actually like this version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps better than the original
Something. In Frank Sinatra's words, the best love song ever written
And then there are The Highwaymen. Epic!
Highwayman
Me & Bobby McGee. Janis Joplin does this the best? Pffff!
Ridin' On the City of New Orleans...one of the greatest songs of all time!
Pink Floyd - Pulse, from 1995. Coming Back To Life is my favourite PF song, and it is done brilliantly here!

The Allman Brothers at Filmore East. Duane playing slide.
Cheers!

The Flaming Lips - UFO's at the Zoo
I had tickets to the show but had to give them away due to a short-notice deployment to Ecuador. Oh well. I saw them later at D-Fest, life changing experience, but I wish I could've seen them in OKC. Here's a clip:
Yes, that is a spaceship in the background, they started the show by "landing" on stage. If you enjoy live concerts, do yourself a favor and see a Lips show. They changed my life.
Marty Robbins Johnny Cash Mickey Newbury John Denver Elvis (would love to have seen an early 50s performance as well as his last) Roy Orbison & Black and White Night Roger Miller Emmylou Harris and the Hot Band

Though I'd have been pretty p'd off having to sith through a 30 min drum solo and then another 30 minutes of Jimmy Page freestyling with his violin bow. Just get on with it!
Would have loved to see Iron Maiden on their Powerslave tour. Other than that, any of the 1940-50's R&B legends.

Queen - anytime, anywhere. But espesially Wembley '86. Gary Moore - during his rock phase. Genesis - the "We can't dance" tour Live Aid Freddie Mercury tribute concert
How could I forget. One of the best concerts ever. I have it on DVD.
I would also have loved to have seen Dire Straits at Wembley in 85.

In no particular order...
1. Eric Clapton in England recording his Unplugged album for MTV. Thank God for MP3's, or I'd lost my disk already.
2. Paul McCartney in Sao Paulo in 2010's "Up and Down" Tour. The Beattles are before my time and I can't consider myself a fan, but the way he treated his fans (I watched it on TV) made me wish I'd been there. Down to Earth, polite and in sync' with the public. If he ever comes back I'll attend, blind folded.

Saw Dire Straits in Darwin in 87, concert rained out and me and a mate jumped the fence to get in because we could not afford to go, Dad thought i was at his place and his mum thought he was at mine..hey cmon we were 16 and at school, it was Dire Straits and Money for Nothing was all the rage at the time , wicked memories even getting drenched..man it was freezing ! I'm glad i got see Knopfler play though, love the guys guitar work..beautiful. I even taped the concert when they played it back on the radio the following weekend, carted that scratchy tape around for years until it died.
@ Panzer , i missed out on ACDC..they played in Darwin the year after i left, man i was spewing! A mate rang me and said..you will never believe it but..man was i p/ssed! Darwin is pretty much off the map when it comes to big concert names, i think they would have blew the town apart because when a mediocre rock band played you could hear it belting out of the amphitheatre for many suburbs around, i imagine Angus would have scared all of the cats and dogs out of the houses for miles around
worst concert ever..George thorogood and the Destroyers, we actually walked out before they were finished, very poor show.Bad sound, bad voice, played a heap of new songs nobody knew , no atmosphere at all.I think the only thing they destroyed that night was their album sales

That is a beef of mine with some concertgoers. They always expect a "greatest hits" parade, and get whiney when they show up at a tour supporting a new album release, and get to hear a bunch of new songs. Which is why i love what Iron Maiden have been doing lately. Every second tour is a new album tour, where they play the new record in it's entirety. And every other tour has been old stuff, supporting their release of DVDs and collection albums from the old days (each covering an era).
For instance, the Metallica concert this spring I'm going to, is mainly to celebrate that it is 20 years since the album "Metallica" (commonly known as 'The Black album') was released. And they will play the full album at the gig.

I once bought a second-hand LP of Iron Maiden's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, and inside the sleeve was a copy of the original owner's ticket for the Wembley Arena concert in December 1988, the penultimate of the tour. I was extremely jealous.

I'm hearing you on that, obviously most bands tour off the back of a new album, but George Thorogood not being a big hit over here besides his bad to bone and house rent boogie and a couple of other oldies, no one knew his knew stuff. It was like everyone was just standing there and there was no vibe at all.Being a performer he would have been able to see that and you think they may have thrown something in to mix it up and get the crowd going.I was never a big fan of his but went with an open mind..all i remember was that repetetive..get a haircut and get a new job song..yawn.Maybe being a Thorogood fan i might have enjoyed it more but going by the crowd, not too many were getting any listening pleaseure, who knows, maybe they were having an off night.
Different with a band like Maiden or Metallica ,you know that you are going to see a high energy band that gets the crowd going , could you imagine going to either and seeing everyone just standing around bored , and im sure if they were either band would sort that out.

Sinatra in Chicago back in the 80's. We went all the way to Alpine Valley to see the Who, but we didn't want to go to Chitown to see Frank? Stupid...Just stupid.

Would have liked to have seen The Velvet Underground back in '66 when they were playing Andy Warhol's multimedia show the Exploding Plastic Inevitable. Must have been incredible.

And then... Lou Reed enters the stage

Lou Reed + Metallica = good idea in theory, but not reality Actually, one could say that about Lou Reed in general after he left Velvet Underground- theoretically, he's good, but in reality, it rarely works out that way

Yes, a bit before my time but I would loved to have seen the VU at the Factory. Still one of my fave bands. I had the fortune to meet Lou Reed while I was a student working at a local concert venue. I was wearing a "Warhol Banana" shirt before my shift and he stopped me to ask me about it and started reminiscing about those times. It was really cool. I was really nervous but not as nervous when I met Kieth Richards. I couldn't even speak when I met him at a Stones post gig party. All I could do was embarrassingly ask him what his favourite "footie" club was.
