After seeing the new 4.11 patch I commenced to install this game again. I installed from the DVD and opened it up and it played fine. So I went to install all the patches including the hotfix as stated in another post outlining the patch order. Well I tried to open it and I got a CTD! Bummer I thought as I must have done something wrong. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Tried the game, no problems. Then I installed the first patch, 4.08m. I tried to run the game and I got another CTD. What am I doing wrong. I unzip the patches to the 1946 directory. Isn't this the correct way to install it? If not how should I do it? Thanks for any help.

If the patches are .zip or .rar files and not the .exe files you will need to unzip/unrar them to your desktop first. After unpacking them you can run the installer and everything should work.

Thats what I thought but there is no installer.

You say it played fine after you installed it initially. Did you check what version that one was before you attempted to patch it?

I am just trying to get on the same page as you so that any information I give you is relevant.

Version 4.07m. Installed right from the DVD.

Try this:

Right click on setup.exe and "run as administrator". Put in your admin password when prompted.
UAC is blocking it thinking it could be malicious.

a.exe is what you need to run.

Glad to assist. It took me awhile to figure it out when I reinstalled it as well. The tip came from the UBI forums if I recall.

Another thing is to just move it to a Games folder on your C drive and out of the Program Files folder if you are using Vista or Win 7. Then the UAC is no longer an issue.
