After having the RE8 for a while I have finally gotten to try it and it's proving hard to keep in the sky.

At take off I have to give some left rudder then when taken off there is no left stick input and any nose up loses airspeed. What am I doing wrong?

RE8 becomes more noticably underpowered as you reach the higher end of it's loadout.

If you have a large bombload and full tanks of petrol:

- Use the whole runway field and build speed with tail off the ground before trying to lift off.
- After lifting, try to be in the 70+ mph range, lower than that, and all she wants to do is mush and not climb.
- Use the SHFT+A auto-level and full throttle to find the picture of what "level flight" looks like from your cockpit view settings. Then use that reference point to get the nose only slightly above the horizon.

That should do ya'.

Harry is a drunken soldier, that's what... bottles

The RE.8 only had a 150 HP engine, so was underpowered for the load it was tasked with IMO. He's a slug compared to anything except the two bombers.

A long takeoff roll is yer friend. burnout

+1 agreed with WWBrian.

Default loadouts in Rise of Flight are frequently overloaded. Lose some of that overly optimistic bombload and you'll do ok.

I've heard the same thing, ie it should carry half the bombs it does.

Having said that, with over 4 hours endurance you also don't need a full load of fuel. I haven't researched the real tank sizes but with that much endurance I suspect they modeled the reserved tank in with the standard tank.

Many RE8s had the reserve tank sealed off because with its position it would catch fire every single crash making pilot death very likely. Without fire, it was sometimes possible to survive some of the many screwups pilots made with this machine

In general for takeoff, keep the stick forward and don't pull back. The plane can takeoff on its own when speed is high enough. Takes ages but it gets there. Treat it like a Handley Page wink

That worked, letting her lift off herself and just skimmed the trees keeping level until I got some airspeed up. Once up and moving though she's a nice plane.
