Do any PT users out there use the ministick for view control in IL2? If, so how have you set it up? Do you map it as mouse X/Y in the CM and run a script? I see that the game (4.11) has the option to map a controller axis for the head under the HOTAS section, but it's only for 'head movement', not actually 'looking'. I really don't understand why both options aren't available, cuz I'd rather have the stick mapped as a standard X/Y joystick axis and not a mouse, that way my view will return to center after I release the ministick. As it stands now, it seems I can only get this to work assigned as mouse look through the CM.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Ok I dont know alot about it but...

Whenever IL2 has seen my ministick on the throttle it sees it as the main joystick. In doing so it rendered my joystick inoperable and I still was using a mouse or the standard buttons for viewing. I've not used the CM for assigning controls in IL2, I use the in-game screen (Controls) to do that.

I know this isn't the subject of the post but I would HIGHLY reccomend Track IR (http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/) as it frees up your hands and you can literally just look around you while in flight.

Thanks for the reply. I know all about TrackIR, I have a first gen model that unfortunately does not work with Win7 x64. I do plan on getting a new one, but at the moment I have to make due without it. I use the ministick to control my view in Rise of Flight and it works perfectly, every bit as good as early TrackIRs as far as I'm concerned (with no 6DoF of course). In RoF, I can assign the ministick directly in-game as a joystick axis for pilot head turning/viewing. It's really very good, and when I let go of it, it returns my view directly to center as well, so there's no way to get disoriented.

I would love to get this functionality in IL2 as well. Somebody else out there must be using it for view control in IL2, it just works too well for others to not have picked up on it. Hopefully that someone will come across this post and help me out.

I think that IL2 will have a difficult time seeing the ministick properly, if at all. Rise of Flight was programmed about 6 to 7 years after IL2 and the designers must have considered the ministick from the beginning, not so with IL2. I'm sorry I don't have any other useful info for you. Have you tried programming the views with an 8-way button? I know IL2 has views that will automatically rotate back to center after you 'look' that way.
