Watched this again yesterday and i think it has been about twenty years since i last saw it.Man i love Tuco smile Without him i do not think it would have been half the movie it was.

Did a bit of reading about it as i me and the lady who watched it were wondering if the graveyard was real or not. Apparently 250 spanish soldiers built it over two days , plus the bridge scene, they had to build and blow it twice as the first time, none of the three cameras were filming ! A lot of cool facts about the movie, the cast the production and the music score here T G T B T U

Lee Van Cleef is just pure awesome. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is one of my favorite films of all time.

Yeah it definitely has to rate right up there for me too. I watched Downfall again last night so it rounded out some good dvd time for the weekend.I have no idea why i decided to give U571 another chance though , simply terrible in nearly every way.Poor plot, bad acting, crap looking scenes..ugh.The dvd skipped so at least i will get to swap it for another, one upside smile

I made the mistake of watching that in the theatre. The funniest line in that movie is when Harvey Keitel's character shouts frantically "The instruments are all in German!" when they first take over the U-Boat.

Did you know Charles Bronson turned down the role Eastwood ended up with? It was based on Bronson's How the West was Won harmonica man, cape and all.

LOL, but it is well known that the average audience hates movies in original version.

Oh man, this movie is one of my 5 favorites. The plot, the characters, the actors portraying them, the dialogs, oh my God the dialogs are so great.

"You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig."

hahaha, how cool is that.

"...wanted in fifteen counties of this state, the condemned standing before us... sitting before us... Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez has been found guilty by the third district circuit court of the following crimes: Murder, assaulting a justice of the peace, raping a virgin of the white race, statuatory rape of a minor of the black race... derailing a train in order to rob the passengers, bank robbery, highway robbery, robbing an unknown number of Post Offices, breaking out of the state prison, using marked cards and loaded dice, promoting prostitution, blackmail, intention of selling fugitive slaves, and counterfeiting. Crimes against places of high authority include burning down the courthouse and sheriff's office in Sonora. The accused is also guilty of cattle rustling, horse thievery, supplying Indians with firearms... misrepresenting himself as a Mexican General, unlawfully drawing salarly and living allowances from the Union Army."

haha Son of a thousand fathers!

And historically incorrect! U571 was never captured by the allies but U-110 was and the Enigma machine captured from it and this is what the film is based upon.

I'm guessing you mean "Once Upon a Time in the West?" Here is a trailer from IMDB . . . somebody tell me if that's Don Lafontaine doing the voice-over.
UK Trailer
In my opinion, some of Ennio Morricone's best scoring. The scene where Henry Fonda and gang shoot the family is all the more haunting because of it. The theme I'm talking about is used in the trailer just as the movie's title first fully appears on the screen at 1:08; simply amazing.

Has anyone else noticed the large rock landing very close to Clint and Eli, when they blow up the bridge? It's a hefty looking rock and appears to be landing too close for comfort on the left of the screen, as the two take cover from the explosion...

Actually it mentioned here (2/3rds of the way down) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060196/trivia

I believe they say in the movie that it's based on a compilation of events, not a history lesson. It's not that bad IMO. I'd rather watch The Enemy Below though---also not a history lesson. wink

I liked Eastwood and Van Cleef in For a Few Dollars More. Fun flick and not quite the time commitment to watch. LOL

Is Van Cleef really missing a digit on his hand in the final scene, is that makeup effects or a stand-in?

Yes but at least "The Enemy Below" didn't have the obligatory race relations scene between a white officer and an African-American sailor, it didn't have asinine dialogue and it also didn't attribute something major to the US which was in fact done by the British.

According to IMDb he is really missing the finger.

Quote:
Source: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001812/bio

He was missing the last joint of his middle finger, a disfigurement prominently featured in the climactic gunfight of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966). He actually lost it while building a playhouse for his daughter, although there were rumors that it happened in a road accident or a bar fight.
