It could just as easily have been Exxon or one of the other leading companies. I think BP was demonized in part because it was easy to get public opinion against a company that wasn't founded in the US. The media certainly took advantage of that. Fish_Taco, sorry to hear about your problem. I can see how it could happen. One thing is for sure though, you won't ever do that again .
