I'm thinking I will finally break down and get one. I not overly computer savvy. Will I have a hard time installing it and setting it up?

Get it from the Natural Point site - the latest is the TIR 5. If you wear headphones you will want the pro-clip, too.

Let me know when you get it and I'll post my TIR A-10C Profile for you to start with.

I assign the Pause to my Mouse Aft Thumb button and the Center to the Mouse Forward Thumb button.

There are a few settings to mess around with, but plenty of folks here will help...


Your flying experience will change for the better - I won't fly w/o it. I use it for driving sims, too, but with a different profile that only allows side-to-side, no up and down.

TrackIR is awesome. I tried to get FaceTrack Noir to work and havn't suceeded. I can't comment on the TrackIR5 but have TIR4. All I can say is, If you don't like wearing hats and use a headset frequently, get the track clip pro. My friend had the track clip pro and it worked better in "unfavourable" light conditions than the standard issue kit.

Installation is easy. Just read the manual if you are afraid. As with any specialist hard ware, you are naturally going to have to tweak/adjust. If you keen enough on flight sims like DCS A10 to learn how to fly, i'm sure you will have the interest to tweak and fiddle with TIR.

I've been thinking of getting one too. One thing stopping me has been doubts about how practical it may be with my monitor. I have a 23 inch monitor, would that be okay?

Also, I can't help but think that I'd be constantly looking out of the corner of my eye at the monitor when turning my view to the side. Is this a problem?

Mine sits atop a 30" monitor.

The response curves can be adjusted so you do not have to turn your head too far.

Like everybody says, TrackIR really is a game changer. Especially with the A-10, BMS's F-16, CLoD, and RoF cockpits.

You should look into freetrack, it is nearly identical to TrackIR but does not require you to shell out nearly $150.

I hear the TrackIR is a better system if you just want to plug and play, but freetrack makes a great weekend project and costs only as much as some IR LED's, some resistors and a webcam (I use a microsoft Xbox live vision camera).

Freetrack has it's issues but after a time it will work just as well as TrackIR.

I don't mean to start a argument, but TrackIR seems pretty expensive when you can do it for only $50 at most if you don't have a webcam and %20 or so if you do.

While freetrack is do-able (I did it years ago), IMHO nothing beats the smoothness, accuracy, and consistency of TrackIR. I have the v5 and track clip pro. When I first started using it, I would get neck pains due to being constantly aware of my head position and moving it, but after a while, it's just like riding a bike or driving a car, you relax and everything comes natural.

But yes, you will have to look out the corner of your eyes when you turn your head... though a triple-screen setup might alleviate this problem.

TrackIR is the best piece of hardware for PC gaming since the joystick. I couldn't fly without one now. Don't hesitate, order one right now. I have mine on a 28 inch monitor.

I just bought TrackIR 5 and having and absolute nightmare calibrating it. I tried other profiles but it seems that my right axis always seems to be more sensitive then my left. Any help with the calibration would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the TrackClip Pro? Also, have you placed your TIR camera thingy on the left side of your monitor?

I am using my TIR with a Track Clip Pro, which is clamped on the upper-left side of my headphones. Thus, my TIR is also mounted a bit to the left of the monitor. No side-bias noted here, even with the default settings. Might want to fiddle with the Speed and the Smooth values though. I have my Speed at 0.8 and Smooth at 10 and find it alright.
