I completed the purchase. Money has gone. So far I am not able to play multiplayer as my login and password are not getting recognized.
I only spent little time in single player last night, trying variuos tracks and cars so way too early to form an opinion.
All I can say that that my G27 will not survive another off track excursion as it rattles like it wants to wake up everyone in my appartment building. Something is overdone here... I tried to follow topic on ISI forums but fallen asleep.
This brought me to asking kindly for sharing efforts here and letting each other know, what we learnt, read, tried, invented to eliminate ugly things that for sure exist in beta release.

I've found a similar effect with my G27... I haven't had time to fine tune it yet... I've been wanting to get my head around the physics a bit better first....
But here's how to change your name....
go to
C:\Users\John\AppData\Roaming\.rFactor
open the file named rFactor.name with notepad.
edit the names... The top one is your first name, middle is last name, and bottom is nickname...
Save it
right click on rFactor.name and select properties
make it read only and click ok
The next time you load the game it'll have your new names...

I read this morning that Tim said not to use that appdata edit as it might cause problems in the future, and they are working on a fix.

For the rattling, grabbed this from this ISI thread: I've found a workaround for the violent shaking/rattling people seem to be experiencing.
There's a line in the controller.ini that's right above "Steering torque filter" called "Steering effects strength".
I've lowered that number from the default 10000 to 7000. Doing that combined with setting Steering torque filter= 4, I no longer have the massive jolts and rattles from hitting curbs or going off track.
Note: I changed those values in BOTH my saved controller profile AND the controller.ini
Note2: I also had to turn up the FFB in-game to compensate for loss of some of the "feel" while driving. I went from 50 FFB in-game to 90. Now the FFB feels great and the curbs and off track are not so violent.

I read this morning that Tim said not to use that appdata edit as it might cause problems in the future, and they are working on a fix. Here's what Tim said for those who haven't been on the ISI forums... Just make sure to make a mental note that you did that. When/if we change our system it may break it. Infact each time you update rF2 you might want to restore it back to how it should be, update, then edit again.
Just trying to keep you compatibleFrom that I'm of the understanding that if the game doesn't work after a update, I just change the rFactor.name back to what it was before I changed it and the game should work... Then I just edit again and I can race online again... The fact they are working on a fix is promising though... As I much prefer to use my stage name, as it's what everyone calls me, and is a lot safer, because there's a lot that can be done with merely a name and a IP address...

Original post by Ghost_unit13If you got a good framerate but notice a lot of stutter, you might check this: rF2 forum POTENTIAL FIX
OK this worked for me:
Open your player.PLR file and find this line: Flush Previous Frame="0" // Make sure command queue from previous frame is finished (may help prevent stuttering)
Change the 0 to a 1
This works for me, its a helluva lot better and the main thing its Driveable at Mills in the Cockpit of the Megane in a race with rain!
There is also this line: Record To Memory="0" // record replays to memory rather than disk (may possibly reduce stuttering, but at your own risk because memory usage will be significant for long races) Would think turning off Replays would have the same affect as this?
Why did'nt I check the PLR file first?!?!

Original post by SteveGeeFor the G27 users here, posted by Scott at ISI...I remember Darren saying it had shaken CD's off his desk. ...such as the G25/G27 you can try increasing this value in your Userdata/player controller.ini file (if you saved your own profile you would have to change it there as well):
Steering torque filter="0"
The range is from 0 to 32.
This will filter the FFB effect over a series of frames, which will smooth out the feedback and reduce the rattle. Please note that as you increase this value the FFB may start to feel a bit "spongy" or "numb" and that it will increase latency.
The reason you don't feel/hear this rattle in many other sims is because they by default provide some filtering. By default we do not.
The value you set this to will be down to personal preference. If it feels good to you, and the rattle/noise is acceptable, then go for it. We did some testing locally and came up with some different values.
One of our internal testers felt 4 was good. Luc settled on a value of 8. He felt any higher felt to numb for him. I personally like 16. I could still feel the car, catch it when it got loose, it didn't affect my lap times at all, and I didn't perceive any latency, neither visually nor in feel. Yes, it did feel more on the numb side, but after a few laps I found I liked it actually.
He did say it was a temporary fix, so I imagine they're looking at it closer. Edit - You have to re-select the profile for it to apply the new .ini file changes. If you simply change the .ini, it will have no effect in the game unless you reselect the profile.

I just saw that rF2's beta was released. I just bought the lifetime version, using PayPal, with no drama. It'll be a couple days before I'm up and running with it - this weekend, and this thread will help with the early "gotcha"s involved with the beta... so thank you!!
Any early driving impressions, compared to rF1?
