I'm just getting into ArmA II, the Operation Arrowhead version. I've completed some of the training and three missions, but I haven't bumped into the Battle Bus yet.

Anyone know when ArmA III is coming out? If it's going to be over a year, I'm just going to go ahead and buy the rest of the ArmA II series.

Cheers!

The battle bus is a mod. Might as well get the ArmA 2 games and addons if you can find them for cheap. ArmA 2 brings my system to its knees, and I would assume ArmA 3 will be nearly unplayable for me as well as most people's PC. So you might end up waiting a year or two before you can afford a system to play ArmA 3!

With each patch Arma2's performance increases, just as it did for Arma 1 and OFP before it.

Supposedly Arma 3 is building on Arma 2 instead of rewriting a lot of stuff, so those increases should be built-in instead of starting over from scratch. While it will no doubt run slower than Arma 2, hopefully Arma3 will look better at an equivalent level of performance (or run better looking the same I guess) in addition to adding other new things.

The infantry look to be getting a significant overhaul.

Is arma3 on the same engine ? generely when devs use the same engine the next game they tweak it,and it runs smoother then previous version on lesser hardware.here's hoping.

You picked the right time getting into A2:OA, latest 1.60 patch is great and the MOD community is in full swing!

Whats your spec Flogger? I'm able to run A2:OA on high/very high on my ~4.5 year old system (C2D E6850 @ 3.4 GHz and a GTX 260) with OK FPS so maybe there is room for some tweaking on your side, make sure to set AToC=0; in your ArmA2OA.cfg.

It would have been more believable without the bleachers hanging off of it, maybe if the modder ripped all the seats out of it and a ladder on the back so you could be inside or prone on the roof with a LMG and some sandbags then it might look like a true Field Mod.
I find it almost too complicated to play but I can run it it's TrackIr capable and there is almost no end to the controller inputs possible but I find it frustrating to play

When I said "brings my PC to its knees" I was referring to it with most of the settings turned up. I use an AMD 965, 8GB DDR2 and a GTX 560ti 2GB. Some of the settings on the highest actually look worse, so I keep those on medium. Still, I can get as low as 15-19 frame rates during large battles.

Strange because I have almost the same system and it runs fine with most settings turned up. Only with heavy-AI missions is when my CPU has trouble keeping up; but with most normal SP/Co-op missions I don't have any issues. Might see if you can OC that proc to ~4GHz

It might be the OC. The Takistan map (open desert) runs fine, but Cherrussia in an area with lots of trees kills my frame rates. I am also playing with ACE, which seems to reduce frame rates a little.

On my GTX 260, I used to get 50 frame rates in small towns/open desert with low-medium settings, but the moment I looked at a few trees my frame rates would drop to 15 or so.

The game also gets my GPU hotter than any other game I own, even more than BF3. I have not tried Rise of Flight or Cliffs of Dover yet though. RoF uses all 2GB of my video RAM, so I suspect it will be quite demanding.
