I was a late afternoon early-adopter of 4.11. Before installation, I ran IL-1946 for a sanity check. I installed the new patch over a HSFX 5.0 and 4.10 setup with a multitude of Mods and user created files.

After installation, I rebooted. The launcher counted up to 60% and then crashed to desktop on three occasions.

Is there a work around to this problem? If unknown, how can 4.11 be uninstalled without damaging the existing based? If impossible, how can I reinstall back to where I started without a major frustration.

Please advise. Thank You.

I'm pretty sure that IL-2 1946 v4.11 is not compatible with HSFX5.0. As with all prior DT patches, the makers of HSFX will likely update the HSFX package so that it can be installed over a clean 4.11 install. There is a bunch of bug-testing and mod updating that needs to happen before that can occur. Please give the modding community some time to adapt to the new patch.

Cheers,

Fafnir_6

5555, you should switch your version back to 4.10.1 with JGSME switch or so and then install 4.11.
If the game freezes at QMB, delete the last.quick file from the Quick folder, it tries to load the last mission with in 4.11 non-existing planes.

Downloaded, installed, flew multiple missions with different aircraft, no problems! The Hellcat feels better to me, if it's not my imagination.

Overall, a worthwhile update.

It took me 50 minutes to download with my craptastic rural Internet connection.

Cheers!

Flew it in a test mission, love to go all arround the gunnerstations and shoot at the bad guys!
Love that plane!!!

My best regards, Kodiak.

I had ended 12 January prepared for a lengthy recovery battle for IL 1946 due to the repeated 60% load failures with V 4.11 and HSFX 5.0. However, due to the support from nearby neighbors in Canada and Slovakia frustrations were avoided on Friday, 13 January. THANK YOU 'fafnir_6' and 'jurinko'.

Early adoption of a software does have its functional caveats to the installed base. This is where it is apparent the HSFX developpers were caught off guard by the Daidalos release of version 4.11. I vaguely remember similar scrambles with 4.10.

The scrambles were circumvented though by the forgotten JSGME placement of Stock 4.10.1 Thank you Jurinko for the tip. By activating Stock 4.10 over the existing HSFX 5.0 activation, the executable returned to normal and the program launched without a problem to version 4.11.

"Unfortunately" the HSFX splash screens have been replaced by the stock IL 1946 screens and probably the benefits of this MOD. So my last question is how does one track the enhancement path of HSFX 5.0 in offering a v4.11 patch?

HSFX 5.0 was released about a year ago, and obviously won't be compatible with 4.11 released yesterday. We haven't been caught off guard by 4.11, it has to be released, and then it has to be patched if necessary, (And now it will be, due to an error in an AI routine.).

Only when that has been done and 4.11 appears to be a stable and will not be patched further, will HSFX 6.0, with support for 4.11 be released. smile

If you have already loaded 4.11 into HSFX 5.0, it won't work. We have no idea what will happen as we have never tried to do this.

2.5 hours and I live in the burbs. Because our city has a contract with the local cable company we can't get FIOS for a number of years.

Any way. Well done TD! Your efforts are much appreciated, and have extended the life of IL2 for a while to come. Thanks!

It's not a mod. This is for the non modded/standard game.

Well, the AI has certainly learned the art of deflection shooting. Today I was shot down three times in a row, something that hasn't happened to me in years smile Up to 4.10 I used to dodge AI only when I saw tracers flashing past my cockpit but now when these blighters open fire, they immediately score hits.
Can't say much more because as soon as I started a new campaign, I got CTD, which by now is known to be a major bug.

What you should do is have 2 installations of IL2 on your computer (if you have the hard disk space). The best way to install 4.11 is over an UNMODIFIED version of IL2 4.10.1. As stated previously, HSFX will not work with 4.11 at all. My suggestion would be to have a stock/unmodded version of IL2 4.11 and then an HSFX version of IL2 4.10.1. That way, if you want to play modded you fire up the HSFX version and if you want to fly the new update run the 4.11 version.

Hi Hotrods,

I made a backup from the config and installed directly in the original folder.
Went flawless.
My only problem now is, that I have CTD after a couple of minutes, 10 to 15.
No comment, no rule, except during flown missions only.
And desktop is looking something odd, like the resulutios or frequency has changed
or something like that.

The CTD bug is acknowledged as a showstopper - we are eagerly working on a small hotfix for this one onlyl, which is soon to be released.
It only appeares, if AI is envolved in fighting. DF-servers without any AI flights, will not cause you to CTD.

Hi Caspar,

seems to be differend reasons, I donīt use ded. serv.
I noticed, that after the crash the resolution is changed from 1920/1080 to 1680/1050, which I used in the game.
Switched the game to 1920/1080 as well worked now for approx 30 minutes. And itīs looking far better.
Performance is nearly the same as before.

Its the same for all game versions (int/ru/ded), so no matter, what you use or do - as soon, as some AI plane is trying some particular evasive maneuver, the game crashes. As long as you don't have AI in your mission, nothing bad will happen.

Switching resolution after a crash is normal behaviour, not only for IL-2 bot also for other games. It just did not shut down correctly and didn't the tell the video card to switch back to normal.

Sorry, that it is not in game - it was forgotten.

You could set the confi.ini file to "read only".

If you aren't hosting a server for multiplayer then just install the English/International version.

The patch is an executable file. Just make sure that it is correctly pointing to your game's main folder. I repeat, make sure the patch knows the correct location of your game folder -- don't assume that the address that comes up in the path window is correct.

As you should know, the stock game doesn't have an open structure like the hacked game. So the air.ini is well within one of the SFS files.
Don't ask, me which - I'm no programmer. biggrin
