Don't really like the Underworld films but I always seem to watch them, don't know why...

I've watched them all on video once. That's what they're worth. I'm honestly surprised they've done well enough to have this many, though.

Not as surprised as I am at the Resident Evil franchise, though.

I have no idea who Kate Beckinsdale or Milla Jovovich are, but I watched John Wayne in "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" last night and that was very good. I highly recommend it.

Cheers!

Milla is the current "Sigourney Weaver". Not quite the talent, but for the image and roles.
My wife and I have enjoyed every one of the Resident Evil movies, and of course Fifth Element is one I can watch any time it pops up on tv. Like last week.
I had no idea who Kate was until Underworld.
She's like Milla-lite, just not as hardcore as the real thing. (see what I did there?)

I just don't get the Resident Evil films' stories. Other than the first one which was a good B SF story, the later ones almost seem...constructed from scenes. Like they work out the stunts and the action and all that, then write a script around it later that fails to really make sense. I don't argue that the action isn't great, I just find my attention wandering and then getting confused as to WTF is going on overall.
I've watched them all, but the first one is the only one I'd consider watching a 2nd time.

Oh Lawd! Dey been drinkin' dat poison Koolaide again!

How many times do I have to tell you that TV is toxic? For crying out loud, Jennifer Aniston was voted "Hottest Bod" the other day, and Mila Kunis was named "Knockout of the Year" for Heaven's sake!

Gentlemen, a scraggly, greasy-haired girl with a figure like an 8-year-old-boy is not BEAUTIFUL!

Let's go over it again.

Do you see the difference?

You must not let them program your brain. The standard of beauty has not changed. They pump you full of anti-depressants, fluoridate your water, then encourage you to watch TV so your brain can be bombarded with bullsh*t, and the next thing you know, you're lusting after girls you wouldn't have looked at before the brainwashing.

Stop being sheep! Get rid of the TV, quit ingesting poison, clean up your mind and think for yourself!

2012. Ugly cars. Ugly women. Ugly music.

Aaaaaaarrrggh!

Cheers!

Yes, I know. I find that head-scratchingly peculiar too.

Oddly enough, I find fully developed, normal weight WOMEN attractive. They'll probably start a 12-step program for people like me soon.

Yeah, reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Mr Burns puts together a baseball dream team...

Smithers: Uh, sir?
Mr. Burns: What is it, Smithers?
Smithers: I'm afraid all of those players have retired and, uh... passed on. In fact, your right-fielder has been dead for a hundred and thirty years.

You're missing the point. Although those particular women may be elderly or dead, those photos are instructive as to where to set the bar.

Despite popular brainwashing, the bar does not belong on the floor. It must be raised. There are still many women at that level of beauty or higher in the world. You don't have to accept what pop culture tells you about beauty.

Ugly actresses and anorexic models are not beautiful. Normal weight women are attractive.

Women. Girls are kids. They should be dating kids. Men date women. Full grown, fully developed, normal weight women.

And don't go around telling yourself that you could never get a women like that. If you tell yourself that, of course you won't. All the usual things that men think are important to women really aren't. If you interact with beautiful women with intelligence, honesty, and self confidence, they'll like you, even if you're not the handsomest chap in the world, or the wealthiest, or even if you're overweight. But, you have to work with what you've got. Attention to style and personal grooming is important. Don't expect to get close with some beauty in a sexy evening gown if you arrived in ratty jeans and an ugly, sloganed t-shirt.

Furthermore, it would behoove anyone to do some deep, introspective self-examination and try to see what else you're accepting because your TV or some other outlet for pop culture told you to accept it.

Free your mind and the rest of you will follow.

Think for yourself. Never let the masses and pop culture do your thinking for you. They're deranged.

Cheers!

Rick... yep

Actually, that's false. The standard changes all the time. Just look at art over the centuries and you'll see the "ideal" appearance, weight, and other characteristics of women changes from one extreme to another all the time, depending also on cultures, religions, and social mores. Perhaps the only thing that's really changed is the frequency of those changes is now measured in a decade instead of many decades or even centuries.

I won't deny that some of these so-called top women of today hold little appeal to me, but an individual's opinion has little bearing on a society's standard. After all, it's well known that large groups of people are dumber than the dumbest individual in that group. Something a person would never agree to normally becomes an obvious choice when stuck in a crowd of 100 or more.

It's always been "in the eye of the beholder", and many of the so-called "classic" beauties I've seen hold no appeal to me either, and I'll bet they're considered downright hideous in some parts of the world today because they have inadequate numbers of body art, piercings, rings around the neck, plates in the lip, or some other metric.

The reason something is popular is literally based solely on the fact that it's popular! Wait a few years, it won't be anymore and something else will be.

In your opinion, it's false. That doesn't make it false.

Looking back through the history of art, while there may have been periods of aberration, and individual incidents here and there, there is a very strong, stable, recognizable current of women who would be beautiful in any age, from all periods. All anyone needs to do to prove this to themselves is study art history, a not unpleasant chore.

For every aberrant deviation from the norm, I can produce overwhelming evidence to the contrary, and this is very much not exclusively my own opinion, but one I've heard expressed again and again in discussions and writing about art and feminine pulchritude.

What does exist is two different standards of beauty. There is classic beauty, portrayed in art down through the centuries, women who would be beautiful in any age, and there is the trendy, or perhaps cultural or regional beauty. But these are not mainstream and are subject to current tastes.

I do agree that the second standard will undoubtedly change soon, and as the flow of information accelerates it will change more rapidly as we go.

And based on the nutritional and exercise habits of the general populous, I think this lady can look forward to a future when she's the stuff of pinups.

We'll have to build much larger aircraft to accommodate the nose art.

Cheers!

I agree Sauron. I love that movie and is part of my John Ford collection. You'd like Kate B. She was on one of those Late Shows the other night and boy o boy is she gorgeous! She is the closest I've seen to a glamorous 1940's or 1950's actress in this day and age. She actually has some curves and not all bones as most current actresses are.

This is what happens when you get older Rick, you sound like my dad in the eighties when he talked about the music we listened to then wink the current stuff is horrible but the old things were cool. You think many 15-17 year old boys are going to go for a Sophia loren..or a Kate Beckinsale ? To them Sophia looks like their mum, as beautiful as she is.

In her day she was the same as the current crop of actresses , everyone fawned over her but i bet you there was a lot of older guys going..eh..whats wrong with these younguns..old whatsit from that black n white flick in 1916 has it all over her! Damn skinny make upped harlot!

Same with music, there is a ton of good stuff out there, just not on the mainstream airwaves.Back in the day ,50's 60's there was simply not the amount of bands and styles there is these days so there was nowhere near as much too choose from as what there is today, the pity is that mainstream radio tv etc flogs the standard stuff to death and indie or smaller groups, songs, shows etc just do not get the airplay that they should.

Personally i love some of the old school lookers, but there is plenty of nice new ones too wink Myself i love the look of Kate beckinsale , i like Mila but her acting is simply crap , she is simply eye candy. I have always thought Sandra Bullock is one very attractive lady as well as Naomi Watts.

It seems like only yesterday that Dad was yelling down the basement stairs, "Turn that sh*t DOWN!" because I had Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, or Jimi Hendrix cranked up louder than his Frank Sinatra ears could handle.

Sniff.

But not to worry, Ajay! I do like some of this modern music! For example, here's one of those new English bands that I really like!

Fake boobs are an atrocity. Better small naturals than big fakes.

I'm not too crazy about dyed hair either. Particularly the vast army of bleach blondes out there these days. There are colors other than blond. Like the one a woman is born with, for example.

I figure the designer didn't make any mistakes and you can't improve on the original when it comes to installing aftermarket parts or changing hair color.

Women should optimize their natural assets and stick with the original scheme.

Oh, and they also ought to accept the natural aging process and grow old gracefully. Meg Ryan has convinced me of that.

Cheers!

Sniff.

But not to worry, Ajay! I do like some of this modern music! For example, here's one of those new English bands that I really like!

I'm hearing you man.I remember Dad walking in and i had something pumping in my room when i was about 13, he said something along the lines of YOU DONT NEED IT TO BE LOUD TO ENJOY IT YOU KNOW!!! biggrin always makes me smile when i think of that moment. He did pass on some stuff that is still like though..Boz Scaggs..yes, corny but i like the vibe..groovy, and ELO .He never appreciated Priest though smile

I have had heaps of fun sitting down with my 13 year old girl and listening to her music, Lady GaGa , Keisha, Flyleaf and a heap of other stuff. She is such a tripper but has an excellent head on her shoulders and she loves that i can sit down and tune out with her. In return i have introduced her to a heap of older music that she genuinely likes as well as old stupid stuff like The Goodies, Monty Python etc.She loves the old stupid but witty humour and reckons we didn't have it so bad back in the day. I think it's pity most of our folks never took an interest in what we listening too or tried to connect in that way. Music man..its for the soul! Whatever your taste smile

Have you seen poor old Rob Halford sing these days? Brilliant band in their day but he really needs to put down the mic and go out gracefully. Those guys were basically my intro to metal, just after i got over my Dark Side of the Moon trip.

Uh, seriously? You call those full figured? I call them "normal". Being larger than a size 10 is not "full figured". I'd say around size 20 maybe you get that. Women under size 8 I call "scrawny."

And Rick, you can take your reply to me and just reword it so that it's written back to you. Yours is nothing more than an opinion either. You can claim there is some "gold standard", but while it's true that particular one repeats, so do the other ones. The so-called "Rubenesque" standard didn't exist just once. The scrawny Twiggy look wasn't popular just once. They all come back and leave again, largely in defiance of the previous standard. Just because the one YOU prefer keeps repeating makes it no more or less valid than the others that do. So, again, just because it's your opinion that it's true doesn't make it true.

You know, one time , back in the day..wateva wink i actually did some research on breasts and womans bodies, what was preferred over time, basically what was hot and when.. if you come down to it. Cmon, its a damn super interesting subject. And yes it is basically what has come been will be again and go around. We liked fat ones, medium ones , super skinny ones, the look is always changing..and we all like different types.. but one of the things i have learnt with many different ladies is that they prefer more up front. Regardless of how much we like what they have.

I mean you slingin only a .22 and old mate beside you has a .45 .. you tellin me your 100% happy ? No matter how much of a good shot that thing is , even scoped out. Sure, it might do the job, but if your packin more heat, the confidence is always going to be there a notch higher when it comes time to show your credentials. Obviously that aint all there is too it, but it is certainly a big draw card.

Like Cat said previously, it isn't just us trying to figure them out, were both doing the dance. and a lot of people play the cards they see right in front of them, they dont look any deeper. Explain big cleavage and its instant draw to us men in any other way and i will stand corrected.

I was talking to a group of women the day the pictures of Arnold's maid/babymamma came out. They were shocked surprized and offended that Arnold not only cheated on Maria, but that he did it with a big full figured woman. I was not surprised at all, but I could not convince them that Arnold being married to a skelator like Maria would be attracted to the plump maid around the house.

That's one point of view, and belief in a "gold standard" for beauty is another, held by a pretty fair number of people out there if you look for articles and discussions.

But we may as well argue about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. Feminine pulchritude is a subjective thing and we're not going to ever resolve the issue one way or another. As someone mentioned, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

But as for me, I will always see the "classic" beauties as illustrated by my suggested examples as the real thing and everything else as aberrations in taste that will eventually rectify. I see the starving waif look as a fad, and believe that the world will one day come to its senses and repent. If they quit allowing the mind control into their lives through the TV, perhaps.

Cheers!

Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sofia vergara, Selma Hayek, Thora Birch all have a full figure so there are still lots of girls like that in Hollywood today.

Personally I would not kick any of the "old" or "modern" versions of "womanhood" out of my bed.

Looking at the time span covered by the pics I posted, and the fact that some of them are pics taken before I was even born, I think we can safely assume that the masses and pop culture didn't affect my choices. Those women just happen to be good examples of what I find attractive.

I could show you pictures of women that I find attractive who are not celebrities or well known, and I think you'd find that they match the pictures that I posted very closely.

On the other hand, looking at the "starving waif" candidates from today's crop of "starlets" I find it hard to believe that anything other than brainwashing is responsible.

Most of them have figures like tongue depressors. Some, after the surgery, have figures like two "Peanut M & M's" glued to a tongue depressor. Inexplicable.

Cheers!

Back to Underworld. I'm glad that Kate is back for this soon to be released film. Her absence was significant in the last film.

yeah, it was a shame she wasn't in the 3rd one even though it was pretty bad... I think Kate is hot and she's one I'll watch any of her films. She was very cute looking in Serendipity with John Cusask, I also hated to find out she smoked. Just saw her in Contraband but the roll wasn't that big...

She was good in Nothing but the Truth and hot in Van Helsing!

I liked her in Van Helsing a lot more than the 2 Underworld flicks she did. She was a better character in VH.

It's like the Underworld films fill the niche for adults who like the vampire genre. Twilight is for teens and the Blade films ended long ago.
