I was going to start another similar thread, but thought it might be better to hijack this one for a moment to consoldate the information in one thread...
I've messed with computers for a long time, but one thing I've never toyed with, was multiple monitors.
...I think I want to mess with it some.
So I currently have a GTX 580 with 3072MB RAM.
I am also running a Dell 3007WFP 30" at its native 2560x1600.
My thoughts are to add two smaller DELL 1600x1200-native monitors on their sides to the edges of the 30" to give me 4960x1600.
That's a lot of pixels to post-process!!!!
- What DELL monitors would be best to use?
- How would 3 monitors plug in? (center = mini-HDMI + sides = both DVI slots)
- Would it be best ( would I have to) add another 580 for SLI ( so 3 monitors plug into DVI? )
...this is all on an i7 980X if that matters much... and a 1200W PSU, so plenty of juice there too I would imagine.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Hi Brian
What you want is called PLP (portrait landscape portrait).
I have it with dell 30", and 2 4:3 monitors in portrait.
Neither Nvidia or ATI eyefinity supports it natively.
So 2 choices:
A) Windowed mode and mess with confit files in every game
B) Use SoftTH -
http://www.kegetys.net/SoftTH/I'm going down the path of B but am considering other options too. But I love the Dell panel and I think I'll stick with this.
But for Nvidia you need a second card that runs off the same driver to plug your 3rd monitor.
I'm swapping my Nvidia for a 7970 I hope, 3 ports and double the VRAM. But you have the VRam already so maybe look at some cheap secondary card like gtx 260
