Only a couple of weeks away, so better get started... take not this is an endurance race, 2.4 hours long... this is also a open setup race... this also starts an hour earlier then our regular races due to it being a long one.

A open practice server will be put up Saturday, 1/21 from Noon till 6 PM (Eastern)

The race server will start at Noon Eastern on 01/28, for a 2 hour practice, and then a 3 lap qualifier (alone); then the race for 140 min race (right, 140?)

I'm not sure we'll get as many as the shorter race at Limerock... so invite your friends.

Race 2

SimHQ 2.4 hours at Daytona (Endurance Race)
Car(s): Riley Mk XX, Corvette, Mustang (Open Setups)
Track: Daytona Road Course (2.4 hours long)
Jan. 28th, 2012 @ 1400 hours Eastern

Sign up with a reply and your car of choice... even if you don't know for sure... sign up is just to get an idea on how many will join in.

BTW... this would be good practice for the official iRacing race a week later...

February 4
Grand-Am iRacing.com 2.4 hours of Daytona
Daytona International Speedway (road)
Riley Mk XX, Ford Mustang

I'll be there most likely learning the DP unless the NTM for the Mustang comes out before then.

Will there be any tows allowed?
Just thinking if we want to have a larger field running the majority of the race.

Quick question. I know that you now only need to 'own' the car that you are racing in official multi-class, but is this also true for hosted events?

Tiger I do believe you need all three cars to race.

I could be wrong, if I find something I will let you know. Also how does quick tow work? Just hit the ESC button and your good or is it a different button?

I think you need all for hosted, I call BS but it is what it is.

Yes, it's just faster.

I agree on the BS part Mag. Whats different from a hosted session and an official session. Maybe its their way to get more people away from hosted into official.

I hit the escape button during the lime rock race for a tow but it said towing and I waited 2 mins for the tow to complete. Is that right for the fast tow?

I was under the impression that a fast tow was an instant return to pits where your car begins the repair process.

In the first race my tow took 1minute 30 seconds, followed by a 50 second service. I came out of the pits nearly 3 laps down.......that's the same as the official races.

So what purpose does a fast tow serve then?

Yup definitely BS on the cars. I only have to buy one at least.

I got the impression that fast tow means you appear in the pits and start repairing straight away. Is there something we are doing wrong?

from someone in the iRacing forum:

It took me a while to figure out what fast tows were, after being around them for a while, I realized that fast tows are when your car gets instantly repaired when you drive into your pit stall.

So that means, I think, you have to DRIVE into the pits, instant fix, then drive out.

???

Hmmm see if you drive to the pits the term tow is wrong then it should be fast repair.

Fast Repair is correct. I always wondered about this too. Found this in the 3/2011 release notes....

"- Now that we have the pit crew making repairs, we no longer need the old style "fast tows" that instantly reset the car to brand new during races which is useful in lower level races to give drivers a chance to continue after a wreck. Instead, and more intuitively, the pit crew can do "fast repairs," which they will do at the start of your pitstop in an instant before commencing the rest of your pitstop sequence if you have a "fast repair" available. The pit crew will do a "fast repair" if anything on the car needs any repair at all, and consumes an available fast repair. If you pit with a perfectly undamaged car, a fast repair will not be used up. When you have used up your available fast repairs for a race, the pit crew will only be able to repair the car in the normal, slow, not-100% fashion. This fast repair will fully fix anything that is broken on the car to brand new, and magically cool off anything that is overheated (so that your motor will not immediately re-explode). But your pit crew will still have to replace tires and add fuel as usual."

I thought you didn't need them all but I guess it's different for hosted sessions. Not sure why...

From the 11/2011 release notes:
"- For multiclass series (this does not apply to hosted or tournaments) you no longer need to own all of the cars in order to participate or spectate. You do need to own at least one of the cars. For example, season 4 of the GRAND-AM series will run the DP and the Mustang. If you own either the DP or the Mustang you will be able to join any of the sessions to race (or watch). Your available selection of cars to drive will be limited to what you have purchased but the system will allow you to download the others car(s) so the sim can render everything properly."

Also one bad thing about fast tow...repair, if you tap the wall and get a 0X and have a dent in the sheet metal, it uses up your fast repair. Then later on you take a hard hit, you have no fast repair because it was already used.

Thanks Lowell for clearing up the fast tow option.

I'm with you Mag I believe it is a marketing ploy to get people into the official races.

Rare day off today and have been doing some testing at Daytona. Tomorrow's practice is much needed!

Was curious about entries and this is what I'm counting. 5 Rileys(6 if Brett makes it), 2 Corvettes, and 3 Mustangs.

Great Practice... I got in 40 laps with the Stang... best was a 1:11 flat, was pushing for 1:10... near end average was 1:12... so for an endurance event... I was happy.

BTW... know how we said we couldn't give prizes out on every race... well thats true... but for this 2.5 hour endurance race... EVERYONE that participates and finishes the event will get 10 iRacing dollars credited to their account (gifted) but there are a few rules... 1) You must be a SimHQ member, and if your reading this... you probably are, 2)You can't do 5 laps, crash out... and come back in for the last 5 laps... you can crash and get repairs, but I will watch the replay for those with ALOT of laps down in there class... better yet, you have to come in, in your class 20 laps to the leader...give or take, my decision. and 3) you can't be disqualified in our race, either for penalties or admin rules, like leaving the track and purposely coming back on to crash into other... it will be easy, just some basic rules... race the best you can, and finish it and you'll be gifted. (Keep this for SimHQ members only.... don't want too many unknowns jumping in the race just to get the gift. But if you are a new member, and an iRacer... your still more then welcome to join.)

Next Sat. 1 PM is Q. immediately followed by the 2.5 hr race.

c u there.

hehehe just noticed that smile

Need to practice some more this week, but I'm finally getting into the flow of the track. It's definitely a classic track for the case of getting as far out before corner entry and accelerating out through the apex in the Mustang. Really loving it now. Managed a 2:09 ish............obviously far far slower than Mag's twin supercharged v12 hyper mustang wink

I think he jumped in the wrong Stang, maybe he got the old P-51 instead!

They'll be "scrutineering" Magnum's Mustang extra close on race morning!

Finally got my setup managable. Now just need to turn laps. And then more laps! Thanks for hosting practice, Magnum.

Yeah thanks for hosting practice Magnum, good to see you guys on there.

I'm still unsure what I will be running in next week's race, I can't seem to come to terms with the OTM in the DP and my wheel kept losing FFB due to overheating, probably because I had FF turned up to high on the DP since I haven't ran it much before.

Hope to get some testing in this week and show up ready to race next Sat, probably in the C6R but we'll see.

I was toying with running the Vette as well. Did a few practice laps in as well with the fixed road america setup and it seemed ok. Probably won't decide until right before the race and will depend upon if the new build with the DP on the NTM comes out and how it feels

As an addendum to Magnums post about trading paints we need the full iracing names (not SimHQ forum nicks) of everyone who wants to add their own paints to enable us to allow you to upload them to the list..

If you want to just full name to this post to this thread with your name and Mag or myself will get it sorted.

Looking forward to this tomorrow, from talking about the Mustang in last year's 2.4 has made me do some laps in it tonight and I decided I will go with the Mustang as I did last year...

I was thinking about using the Corvette but it doesn't seem like it is in the official 2.4 and I want to get some practice in for that race... so consider me another slow Mustang for tomorrow still using my slow/steady setup from last year hehe.

Race is today folks!

Server goes up at 1 PM Eastern for a hour practice, not mandatory).

Race starts at 2 PM Eastern with a 3 lap qualifier, then immediately into the 2.4 hour race... This is an endurance race... don't try and win it in the first 5 mins... there should be NO car contact for the first couple of laps... let everyones tires get warmed up, and everyone in there groove. Remember this is a multi-class race... slower cars have to brake earlier, and usually must maintain a strict line, faster cars are 100% responsible for a clean pass, If you go off track, you are 100% responsible for a safe re-entry, no one on track, even slow cars have to yield to you. Also, remember... if you finish the full 2.4 hours within 20 laps of your class leader... you will receive 10 iRacing bucks in your account... enough for the next car plus or half a track. wink

The password is either gofast or gofaster, I can't remember, lol...

Immediately after, I will have to save the replay and disconnect... have to work earlier then usual, already will be late, suppose to be at work by 3:30, lol. So thanks in advance for participating... and be sure to check these very forums for screens, videos, and after talk.. along with info on Fun Race #3... Our first "fun" oval track race... along with some quick and dirty last min short races.

ALSO... don't forget to subscribe to "SimHQ Official" car skin list via www.tradingpaints.com, and update before race.

Good Luck.

First of all, my apologies to Marcus if I messed things up for you after my spin. I couldn't get control of the thing in the grass and may have ended up on track and in your path. My replay only goes back to lap 35 or so. Sorry if I messed you up on that one.

Second, congrats to Kiddhy for the win and Joao for the class win! It was cool to have Conny's teammates, Kiddhy and Ronnie join us for the race! Hope you'll both be back for some oval racing next month! I think this was Brandon's first SimHQ race? Not sure but he disconnected around lap 16 or so. Hope to see him back also!

Great racing by all! Very clean and curteous as always. I had fun racing with Jason today and if we both hadn't had our own little mishaps, we would have been racing together for the entire 2.4 hours! See you all back at Daytona on the 25th.

Thanks again, Magnum and Doug for hosting the races!!!

Yeah awesome race guys! Congrats to the winners Kiddhy, Lowell, and Joao. I had a blast! Wish I could have driven better so Lowell and I could have raced for 140 mins but like Lowell said we both had issues. I do have to thank my pit crew for the 2 second engine swap after I blew it up going into the Bus stop.

Magnum and Paul you guys were cracking me up. It was awesome. I can't wait till the next one its going to be epic. Oh and Mag if you couldnt handle a few cars pressuring you how the heck are you going to handle a draft? LOL

Once again awesome race and I hope I see some of you road guys at the Daytona event next. Trust me its way easier you never leave the banking and never brake just go!

BTW Does anybody know how many times that damn plane took off? LOL

Yep great race... at work now, but I'll post screens and video in the screenshot forum tomorrow.

I thought, with a 2.4 hour race it would be nice and easy, just sit back and do my laps... boy was i wrong, it was racing almost the whole time. First with Paul, I started from the back, he in front of me... for 20 mins or so we were within 1 second of each other, he finally lost it and I took the spot, but then he caught back up, I screwed up and he took the spot back... so then i came into the pits, went back out and Marcus was behind me... fought to hold him off, till eventially I lost that... then finally Joao who was already a lap ahead, but i fought hard to not go another lap down...eventually, he took the position.

The only 2 wild incidences i saw was coming to the bus stop... I say "isn't there a car stopped on track"; then another car passes me and slams into him... they go spinning off track, i drive away.

Then another time I screwed up, again in the bus stop, took it too slow, Marcus i believe, goes to pass me on the inside, while lowell in his vette, goes to pass us both high... I get sandwiched and think I tapped Marcus in the right rear quarter panel, he goes spinning around, and all 3 of us go for a tow ride...

Then one other time, like with 2 laps left in the race, I'm going into the bus stop... man that bus stop proved to be a problem area today, I see a fast moving DP coming in my rearview... the timings wrong, he looks to make contact with me in the bus stop, so I panic, try to move to one side in the bus stop, lose it and hit the wall... drive to the pits with a 90 degree wheel... quick repair and out again... turns out he wasn't going to hit me, he planned on slowing down... but i saw it coming so fast I paniced. lol

But over all a great race, very fun... and I learned a whole lot.

Thanks to everyone who attended, and made it a good one.

Great fun racing with guys. Made a terrible qualification and ended up on third spot. But I managed to pass Conny in T1 and I tried now to hang on to Kiddhy. But he got further and further away and that was probably because Conny and me were having a fight for second position. We change placec a couple of times before the first stop wich I took on lap 35. I got a 5 sec lead after the stop but a couple of bad timed passings he was on my tale again. On lap 46 I got a few second gap and after that I did not look back. Kiddhy was long gong (20 seec +) And I started to get in a nice ryth now but he was steady as a clock Kiddhy. I started to calculate how much fuel a would need for the last 20min and the idea struck me to skip changing tires, that would give me a shorter stop. It did not.......
It´s in GTR2 they don´t change tyres and refueling on the same time, bugger......
Well the tire were no problem rhe last 20 min anyway, but now I know its no point skipping that.
The lapping verked very well, a couple of missunderstandings during the whole race, but nothing but a bit of lost time was the result of that. Allthough it was one incident that was scary. Catched Paul on the first part of the oval, he was going high and i took the lower lane but just as I was passing he went low eek2 Luckily we only touch side to side and it was only a 0x and the car was not damaged either. He was looking at his fuel and did not realize he suddenly was going down.

Grats to everyone who finished and extra grats to class winners, and extra extra to Kiddhy who managed to have 0x for the whole race, thats impressive.

SSR takes the full podium winner

No apology needed.. It didn't affect my race one jot.. I just took a line onto the grass around you but it didn't affect my finishing place.. I would just like to say how unlucky Paul was to hit that barrier at the end to give me 2nd place in class.. Still, it made up for my crash with Magnum and Lowell earlier in the race so all things equal out.. for me at least wink.

I managed to keep some sort of pace with Joao for the first 15 laps thanks to the bunching caused by letting faster cars go, but as soon as we got some clear air he proved his speed by pulling away from me.. It's a pity i couldn't make it more exciting at that point but my skill sonly go so far smile

I had a fantastic time last night, it was excellent.

I really enjoyed the battle with Magnum, I was shattered after that. I don't think either of us could have kept that up for much longer. As he said we were like a second and sometimes less away from each other.

All the racers were fantastic and real sportsmanship was shown at all times. I'm so pleased that we all proved Magum's thread right with regards to multi-class racing. There may be some idiots in iracing, but none here.

But, talking of idiots, I'm so sorry about the incident Ron. I checked my gauge with plenty of time and you were on my sooo quickly. Those DPs are fast!!!

I couldn't believe my bad luck hitting the tyre wall just a few minutes before the end of the race frown Still I'm sure it gave Marcus a smile. I can just imagine the grin he had while saying, oh Paul *cough* I'm so so sorry *cough* smile

Going to make a video of the race today. My first ever one!

I was following Don, actually not too close, I must have been 2 or 3s behind I think. I saw him start spinning, then there was so much smoke that I couldn't tell where he was, and ended up ramming him full front. I was surprised the car was still drivable on my side so I limped back to the pits (forgot about the fast tow, duh'). That was the lap I was supposed to come in for my first stop anyway so it wasn't so bad.

That was me again, but I had really slowed down a lot by that time, wasn't even very close to be honest so no chance of contact at all. You had the inside line, I was certainly not going to try anything at the bus stop. So yes, I think you panicked WinkNGrin
Generally, apart from a hairy moment between Ronnie and Paul, I don't think there was any contact between DPs and other classes.

I had a blast, unfortunately I was far from being fast enough to keep up with the Scandinavians, man were they fast! so I ended up not really having to fight anyone. The good thing though was that there were enough cars on track that it didn't get boring at all.
Also I was surprised how comfortable I was the whole time and I had really no issues after 2h20m of racing non-stop, which was my longest ever so far.

Thanks to all of you guys, that was a lot of fun!

It's not easy to follow an SSR team DP wink
Many of (think 5 or 6) have been driving the DP the whole past season, and Kid an Ronnie are veterans for sure with these cars.
I was hoping for perhaps some other quick DP drivers to join, but it is not easy to commit to a long race like this.

I was surprised how quick it went actually. I praised the long ovals straights where I could loosen the grip from the rim and rub my shoulders a bit. smile
I actually stood up and streched a bit during pitstops...perhaps why Ronnie pulled away during these a bit.

Sorry I couldn't make it :-( Dad duty took precedent :-) but glad to see a couple DP regulars join the bunch with Kiddhy and Ronnie. I have had a few opportunities to race with them in the past and they are very good. Congrats to the winners and hope to see you next race

Just wanted to say thanks for a great experience yesterday during the SimHQ2.4. Sorry i had to d/c. I just couldnt keep pace and focus for that long and I didnt want to wreck anyone's race. I hope to participate in more events this year as I grow into the Riley DP.

Thanks again

Hey Brandon.. It was a shame to see you leave yesterday but join us for the other races in this series.. we're all a pretty laid back bunch who understand that people make mistakes.

Thanks Magnum.

Your next car/track is on me, also given that I've just received 25 bucks from iRacing for my club (DE-AT-CH) winning the road world championship.
