Over the Christmas holidays a hard drive died, requiring replacement. Using this time as an opportunity to upgrade my graphic card performance, I upgraded my GeForce 7800 (256M VRAM) to a 'newer' Nvidia GTS 450 (1Gb VRAM).

On the older setup, 128E responded well. With the newer setup, however, the main screen appears distorted with multiple lines running across. How can I remedy this problem to return to enyoyment of EAW?

The screenie you emailed me gives me the impression that you were not running the windower properly.

In my 1.28 folder where the windower is I have a "hook.ini" file which reads
Code:
[KnownProgram]
C:\EAWGameranger\eaw.exe=eaw

That is the address of the exe I am using.

When I run the windower I see this:

Double clicking the eaw icon launches eaw in a window:

I could not see any sign of a window in your screenie.

Jel,
I have a computer in my basement which has a GeForce 6200 vid-card,
which does not work for EAW. (In-game works but screen tearing for selections
was so bad I could not click on anything. Got quick mission by accident.)
I downloaded the D3DWindower, set it up like you did, but I could not
get it to launch EAW...I was ready to give up on it......for the heck
of it I launched EAW from my EAW desktop icon and it worked! No screen tearing!

I got rid of the windower.....and the tearing came back. I re-installed the windower
and it worked again. EAW runs with no window, but seems to get some settings from the
windower........ eek
So this may be why he gets no window? Not sure, but........

Your critique of my placement D3DWindower probably explains why there is no positive reaction so far. I have even considered returning my GeForce7800 which did function as the Nvidia graphics enhancement may have been illusionary.

What you clearly indicate is not so clear to me. What 128e folder? Are you addressing the primary game folder? Where is the "hook.ini" placed and how should it written as I do not use GameRanger?

I only have one EAW folder apart from a backup.

The three key files are highlighted.

Hello,

5555, assuming you are not using OAW, when you installed EAW 1.28e, you had to point it to a directory ie.) Program Files/Microprose Software/ European Air War... You must also point the windower to the eaw.exe in that folder. Then you must also tell the "Windower Program" to "emmulate".

I'm sure someone here has the instructions for properly setting it up. Pobs has a way of explaining things, try sending him an S.O.S.
I have tinkered with the windower, but since the 1.28e, I have not needed it, and I have an older ATI card smile

Hello,

I don't know if that helps but the last time I used the windower I was playing from that directory in image two. Hover your mouse over the "+" like in image one. The selct emulate like in image 2.

I thank you both for the prompt responses. I had started the day by considering a return to my older graphics solution, a Nvidia Geforce 7800. I probably will now swap my Nvidia GTX285 for this apparently user-hostile GTS450 as the former was more friendly with programs that are presently causing me problems with the latter and it has the 1Gb VRAM option that I sought.

With regard to my "128 Folder", my EAW folder does have the 'D3DHook.dll' as well as the D3DWindower. However, my Windower is not listed as an executable. Should I rename it to invoke an .exe format? Also, "hook.ini" folder that I can configure, nor the EAW executable in the Windower window as indicated. How do I accomplish these tasks?
