So with recent news about Flight (don't want to talk about it here please), I'm jumping into X-plane 10 with both feet. In anticipation of it's arrival on Monday, I'll be doing the following:

-Cleaning out my PC of any "dead weight" so as to make room for it's 8(!!!) DVDs (whats the average install footprint BTW?)

-Getting Windows and Drivers up to date.

-Downloading the revised installer and any patches(If I can, without disks in hand)

-Joining the X-plane forums to start getting to know the community.

My Questions:

-What should I be reading to get up to speed? I'll be looking at both JimK's post on settings, as well the one from the X-plane blog. Anything else (such as guides on how to install third party aircraft, scenery, etc)?

-Given the specs in my signature, anyone have some ballpark thoughts on how it'll run on my rig?

-Anything else I should know pre-arrival of my copy?

Thanks all!

If I remember correct X plane 9 had 60 GB of scenery! So I would expect that or a bit more.

As for the system you should be fine. From what I have read the more cores and RAM you have the better X plane runs but with 8 gb RAM and 4 cores it should run without a hitch!

I too will probably be plunging head first into X plane 10. Up until now X plane was always a after thought sim. Sort of I will play it whenever. Now I feel it will be one of the best Civilian sims left. The one thing that always got me was the ATC or lack of ATC in X plane. But the added ATC to X plane 10 so the future looks very bright for X plane.
