Either way, Eastern Front holds minimal interest for me (just slightly more than WWI). I'd much prefer PTO, CBI, or MTO. But above all, I'd prefer a game that works.

I like all the Russian planes. I knew nothing about the eastern front air battles, we learn nothing of this in school over here in the US. So it was really fun, in IL2 I would spend hours reading the reference guide and history of all the planes.

I look forward to doing the same in BoM.

i hope 1c will be smart enough to modell the P-40B/C , a plane that saw serviceaction at the moskau front in winter 1941/42......

but my personal favorite would have been also something about MTO,i like the possibilities of having air-sea combat and UK carrieroperations. and there was also a huge part of groundsupport in this area smile

Yeah I know but considering where we're discussing this you'd think which aircraft would be more popular.

Now if I were posting on a RU board in Cyrillic then I'd expect a somewhat different response.

What a generalisation... just because we type in English, we favour Western birds?

Don't include others in your biased opinions.

Rather fly the Il-2 than US birds.

Yup, bring on the eastern front, much more interesting than the pacific in my opinion, and far let's likely to have issues due to greedy us corporations as per Pac fighters!
Number 2 on my list would be North Africa spanning 39-42, but for sure let the Russians have their battles portrayed first, it's their game!

Some of you chaps will carry on about anything wot smile the poll is clearly a bit tongue in cheek ..

a. Yes i am excited

b. No i am not excited

c. I would prefer another theatre

I may have preferred a ...d. I am excited and depressed at the same time when i think of the russian front as i automatically think of the horrible russian winter and the lack of heating for my 109, can i have a choice of transfer to the med and thaw out ? or possibly even Norway? but it is not my poll.

My character somehow got all twisted up. I was playing the mission where you have to infiltrate the Golden Glow Estate and do multiple things. When I was out burning beehives and fighting I just eventually ran away to view my success from a distance. I first noticed it when I squated down on a tree trunk. Coot..the squatter../simHQ/2011

Ok, I'll exclude you.

Seriously though look at the poll and tell me which percentage would prefer a different theatre and which the eastern front? I think it's safe for me to generalise that others would anything but the eastern front for the purposes of this poll.

Cheers. cool

We know the Eastern front will be next, so the poll question is effectively, Do you wish another theatre had been first?

At this point 54% have said Yes. And 46% like, or can live with the Eastern front.

(three choices seems a bit redundant)

We all have our favourites (I'm hyped for DCS to do an F-18 sim with carrier ops - but I bought BS, and it was a revelation, one of the best sims I've purchased) but why not enjoy a quality product?

Between the first Il-2 releases and the final addons, I think we've had plenty of Eastern Front WWII simming in the last 10 years. What have we had on the western front? Well, we just got CloD, but I think BoB isn't really considered "western FRONT", as that comes a bit later. So, a few maps and planes rounded out with AEP for Il-2 and CFS3. Old. Have to go back to EAW and Jane's WWIIF.
Med? Again, a map or two in Il-2 and a partial selection of planes.
Pacific? Sorry, Pac Fighters really fell short of my expectations for a PTO sim. Compared to the 90s Aces of the Pacific and PAW it just didn't cut it.

So, frankly, Il-2 is a victim of its own successes and failures. It did the Eastern Front wonderfully, the various addons building it up better, but the other theaters where implemented were half-hearted and lacking. Putting BoB in with CloD was good. Now I hope they really cover the other theaters BEFORE returning to the Eastern Front again.

The reason why we've had so much Great Patriotic War simming is simple - with the exception of TK - non-Russian developers abandoned serious simulations a decade ago.

On the other hand >80% of flight simulators in the 1980s and 1990s had American themes (with a smaller number of British developers) - no one would ever have been interested in modelling the Russian Front. To be honest, I for one am tired of the dismissive attitude that assumes Russians are not allowed to be interested in Russian history if it inconveniences Americans...

As for Midway - American courts have decided that the rights to create a historical depiction of an aircraft descend indefinitely to whichever company happened to buy up the remains of the earlier companies which sold it - regardless of how many servicemen gave their lives flying the equipment. So, until the courts change it doesn't make financial sense.

Does this mean I'm happy that the Mediterranean appears to have been axed for the moment? No. Does it mean that I feel horrible about the idea of a snowy 1941. No. Let it be. We'll still have hopes for depicting our history once the SDK comes out (or the third product is produced).
