A remake of one of the best PC games ever? Consider me seriously hyped.

yep

I've spent countless hours defending Earth against those nasty aliens in the original X-COM. Let's just hope they don't screw it up by making it "more accessible", "action-packed" and "cinematic".

Just give me the old X-COM with modernized gfx and a slick GUI and I'll be a very happy camper.

Sweet.

Also, I'm sure you've seen this since you have War in the East, but did you know Matrix has one too? It works swimmingly for me on Win 7 64 bit too. UFO Extraterrestrials.

Fans of the original are worried about the FPS take on it. Never played original so I'm hoping for a cool shooter

Mighty big shoes to fill, but with Firaxis involved it has a shot. Fingers crossed. Smile2

That's not the only tactical RPG remake to be released soon:

I liked Jagged Alliance better, which is ALSO having two games come out this year for it.

However, these games are not being made by Fireaxis, so there's a big potential for fail!

http://www.jaggedalliance.com/en/diary-en/part-8/

1 month away and no long previews. I'm scared!

cool! thanks for sharing the info!

console audience and PC? Sounds hopeful, but I will believe it when I see it!

XCOM's leader needs a worldwide perspective where threats are identified, populations reassured, and national leaders mollified – but a tactical mind is just as critical considering every shot XCOM's soldiers fire on the battlefield is under the player's turn-based control.

Cool! Looks like all the old elements are there, global monitoring, base building, R&D, and turn based battles.

Wow, retaining the turn based battles! I love that aspect of X-Com! I'd figured that would have been the first thing to go these days.

If you go to their website there's a developer diary sort of video there. It's also on Youtube but it wants you to log in to see it there. You still need to confirm your age for the main site but after that you're OK.

There's a preview in this months pcgamer, this is going to be a instant buy for me as the original was one of my favourite games of all time. I remember when I had a not so legal copy for my Amiga 500 and struggled to run it.

I think there is a backlog of classic, really aging computer games and sims that each of us secretly (or openly) pray would be modernized, without sacrificing the original. Not a new interpretation or take, just a faithful remake of a great program. X-Com has got to be on many people's lists. The effort by Firaxis takes on a tremendous load of wishes and hopes and prayers and, if successful, could open the way for other sims and games to be remade. But if it is a miserable, or even boring product and sinks in the marketplace, I fear it will take all those other dreams down with it. So PLEASE FIRAXIS! WIN ONE FOR THE GIPPER! PLEASE!!!

Cool. The original was a blast to play. The next game in the series though, Terror from the Deep, I found somewhat less fun.

Not yet. Only saw videos about and read a little bit in the forums. Yes it looks good and it have it´s charme, but it`s currently far from a release. There are things missing in the current build and I dont want to play and stuck somewhere. Other alien species are also not implemented yet. Eventualy will have a look at it again when it`s finished. Currently playing UFO:ET until Firaxi`s game is released.

X-com and Falcon3.0 were my first computer games! great games!

please don't frak over this version of X-com! If firaxis can keep the core gameplay and update the graphics as the first link suggest they are doing then they will have my money and support!
