This is CVW-11 Ears (can't seem to change my displayed name due to some time thing in my preferences \:\( )

Anyways, wanted to leave a quick post just to maybe help a few people out who are having on going video problems with Jane's F/A-18 and Windows XP Service Pack 2.

I am using a nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8x, the drivers are 45.23. In the nVidia media center I have "Image Settings" set to "Quality", "AntiAliasing Settings" set to "Off", and "Anisotropic Filtering" set to "Off". In game I have everything maxed out, all boxes are checked including that water one and the low level noise one.

Everything is workin fine for me know except for the "Meatball"... it won't pop up?. A few days ago I turned on "Read Synchronization" for my AGP Card Settings in my bios. I'll let you know if turning it off changes anything...

Well I hope this helps somebody or sheads some light on other problems. I'm a computer engineer major and from what I can tell so far is that like most of you already know, its software not hardware that is the issue. Take care gentlemen!

Semper Fi!

P.S. If anybody knows how to increase the frame rate in Jane's F/A-18 or brighten the "Meatball" I would greatly appreciate it ;\)

CVW-11 Ears here.

Fixed the "Meatball" problem... Was a little premature in my posts but went through quite a few previous post when I came across one that read... "I change the compatibility mode from Win 98 to Win 2000." Everything seems to work great now including the "Meatball." ;\)

Please, use the link in the top post. I keep that up to date and accurate, but cannot vouch for anything in the rest of the thread.

Is there even a version of Direct X 8 that works on XP? All the ones listed on the Direct X Downloads site are for pre-XP Windows.

People on the net are saying you can't revert back. Any ideas?

I beleive XP actually installs with DX8. It definitely works, no doubt about that. The reason DX8 for XP is rare for download is probably because everyone is just hosting the latest version.

Reverting back is not really an option. There is a program called DX Buster, but people have reported big problems using it to remove DX9. The only surefire way to remove a DX version is to reinstall Windows and install a lower numbered version. This revert you to the version that Windows shipped with, and you can never go lower than that.

Playing JF-18 with DirectX 9 is quite simple. YEs, you will miss some visual quality, but I think it is worth it to avoid the massive hassles of outdated DirectX and video driver versions.
