I had originally attempted to install Falcon BMS in a system using a Nvidia GeForce7800GT. Finding this 256M card performance out of date, I was able to swap out for a Nvidia GTS 450 (1Gb Vram). However, when I tried to reinstall the program, I was promptly notified that:

"The registry entry points to a folder that does not contain a valid Falcon BMS 4.32 install. Please restore missing files and try again or remove registry entry (HKLM\ SOFTWARE\Benchmark Sims\Falcon BMS 4.32)to be able to install the program again. Path:C:\Falcon BMS 4.32\."

I did a registry search and drive search for anything identifiable as Falcon BMS to no avail. Does anyone have an idea as to how to workaround this problem? Thank you for any quidance.

You have to point the installer to the original F4.exe file.

I do not understand your point. If I refer to the "Setup" command in the Falcon BMS 4.32 folder, the response is the error message I am given. How do I install Falcon BMS 4.32? Where is then the link that addresses the setup installation of the program?

Please advise.

Hi 5555,

As Dragon said, the BMS Installer requires that you have an original Falcon 4.0 Disc inserted into an optical drive at the time of installation. This is required as it has the Falcon4.exe file on it which the installer needs to commence the installation process. You DO NOT have to install the original version .... just have the disc in the drive and if required point the BMS installer to it when asked (although I think from memory it looks for it automatically .... but I could be wrong and if so then my original statement applies yep).

Alternatively if you do not have an original disc but have the Falcon4.exe file backed up somewhere else you just need to point the installer to that file.

If you are unable to do either of these options .... then the BMS installer will not run and you will get the error that you have gotten so far.

To put it simply .... the BMS installer needs the Falcon4.exe file to install.

Hope that helps ....

Cheers cheers

P.S. If you can't get your answers here regarding the install process, or any other questions you may have, here is the URL of the design group: http://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/ .... if they can't answer your questions then I'm betting no-one can thumbsup.

With assistance, I was able to break the code to install BMS. The installation warning I found curious as no Falcon BMS directory existed in my system. However, BMS is registry dependant which meant that Benchmark Sims was established as a folder in the computer system registry and had to be obliterated as had the data.

The trick was to understand the code in the message where HKLM means HK Local Machine leads to a Software folder containing other folders where I found and deleted Benchmarksims. After a system reboot, Falcon BMS 4.32 installed to my system. End Frustration.

They'd be no frustration if you had the original F4 disc.

Dunno what to think of this. You've clearly hacked and circumvented what the original developers intended.

No, what all of you are failing to understand is what he is trying to say. If you have a benchmarksim folder in your windows registry, the install of falcon BMS can't start, it can't even get to the point where you are supposed to choose the falcon 4.exe.

I had the same problem a few days ago when I needed to reinstall my falcon BMS, when I launch the installer it says it can't find my old BMS folder (since I had removed it) and I had to go in to the registry and find the benchmarksim folder, delete it and then I could launch the install - and THEN I could choose the falcon 4.exe location etc.

Had a bit of a problem too. Installed F4BMS, patched to Update 1, then found out the guys I was flying with reverted back to vanilla BMS due to instability with Update 1. So I uninstalled BMS, re-installed just the vanilla BMS, and started flying again. Yesterday, I was told by my vSquadron that I'd have to apply Update 1 if I wanted to fly with them as vanilla does not play nice with those that have Update 1 installed. So I try to install Update 1. The Setup.exe wouldn't let me. It kept telling me I had both BMS and Update 1 installed. No way around it so I had to uninstall my vanilla BMS, remove all traces of it, then re-install BMS and re-apply Update 1.

However, I forgot to back up my files and now have to re-do my DTC setups. banghead

Had the same issue as the OP when the update came out - but it tells you what to do (as he says in his post) so the only issue was that he couldn't find the registry entry.

I found mine quite easily, deleted and away we go.
