I think of my level 25 jedi as my learning curve dude. I didn't understand crafting or anything so, I will have to unlearn some of those 'skills' I took on and tailor them more for making money, which I didn't do. I didn't realize the affinity between something like treasure hunting and crafting, so my first toon has no crafting abilities. Doh.
My 26 or 27 sith toon has that worked out, but now I'm at a loss in the artisan department. Seems that my pals only bring back high level stuff for which I have no 'recipes' to use them. I have a huge list of things I can make, but never have the ingredients, because I've moved on too far. I'm thinking I'll have to go to an auction house and buy recipes or something so that I can continue to craft and make money. Unless there's some other way to get recipes? The trainers never seem to update and give me things that are tangible to me. I buy out whatever they have and am usually unable to craft the majority of the items due to low level stuff. I guess I could always go buy the mats from someone, but then that sorta defeats the purpose of having the companions.
What are your crew skills? Most crafting take items from 2 gathering skills. My synthweave, for example, needs stuff from archaeology and underworld trading*. Arch is easy to skill up, you find deposits you can scan while running around doing missions, and I send my ship droid off UW trading while im adventuring. If you hover over the materials for an item, it usually says its a grade 1, 2, 3 etc. material. And you can find some items from slicing lockboxes, if you have that skill. Plus reverse-engineering stuff you make will get you about half your materials back and sometimes unlock an upgraded pattern.
you can always hit someplace like torhead.com and lookup the pattern or material you need to see where to get it.
* Jedi powers are awesome, I can make a fine silk belt from some glowing rocks and part of the rosetta stone.
