Kicking off 2012 also means kicking off the new v1.60 patch. If you are not patched up, then get it done ASAP.

The new patch makes serious changes to the AI. They now have pretty sharp eyes, spotting players (and especially vehicles) at greater ranges. And once spotted, the AI will often waste little time putting some fire on your location. After a bit of testing, what this means is that encountering a 3 or 4 man patrol isn't just a target shooting exercise, as before. If they are within 150m, we've got a chance for a 1:1 loss ratio within our own group before the AI are all down.

AI need to be spotted early, and treated as threats at all times. This means using clean radio discipline: Target, heading, range.

Since these changes impact how our library of missions will play, tonight we're going to gauge the AI by playing a few older missions. In addition, Taosenai has a new mission for tonight too, We'll play it #2 tonight, then follow up with some tried and true missions.

This means no Sahrani Campaign mission this week. It'll resume next week.

See you there!

I'm really looking forward to experiencing the new AI with other human players in a mission environment. They are considerably more formidable now, and we'll all need to sharpen up and clear our heads of the usual 'tricks' we are comfortable using against the AI.

For what it's worth, they have also received even more fixes to their ability to run through walls, see through certain types of foliage, and see through fog, so you should treat their perception as roughly the same as human abilities. Playing with an AI squad, I notice that they spot enemies almost exactly when, or slightly after, I do.

My new mission also showcases their improved CQB behavior in a city environment, plus OPFOR weapons and technicals! It's going to be crazy hard.

i got teampseak to work,

i only have arrowhead standalone..
someone in the teampspeak told me to read the thread "SimHQ ArmA 2 / OA Multiplayer Information (Edited July 20th, 2011)"
but it looks out of date...

i dont have Arma2, just the standalone pack..
what do i need to download to join military mondays?

Hi Hannibal,

That thread is still up to date as per the products and addons (I'll update the patch version tonight). The downloads subheading in that sticky and the link there are all of the SimHQ addons (just 4 maps we host).

However, if you have only the "Operation Arrowhead" standalone, I don't think that will work. We run the ArmA2/Operation Arrowhead combined installation as the sticky mentions. Most of our missions draw content from a mix of the two of these products together. So you'll need both ArmA2 and Operation Arrowhead.

Hope this helps.

Good times tonight against the 1.60 AI, and it's also nice to see the stuttering distant enemies issue fixed.

Also, man do I love providing CAS. That has to be my favorite role.

Yep, very nice gameplay. The new AI were tougher, but in a positive way. It should prompt us to up our game a bit.

Next week we'll continue the Sahrani campaign, now that I am a good deal more confident of the AI changes.

Good times!

I'm glad to see the Buddy Aid module being used more now, instead of the old "hit once and you're dead" system. It adds a bit more realism and a dilemma for players attempting to rescue the injured player.

I got the same impression. I felt like I was one of the last pockets of German resistance inside Stalingrad!

After Tao's mission last night I think we need to work on a procedure for dealing with injuries. I noticed a couple of times when someone was hit, someone else would run right over and start reviving. This usually lead to that person also getting hit.

We need to make sure the threat is eliminated or at lest suppressed and remember to use the drag and carrying commands to get the injured to safty, then work on them.

That's true -- and it was especially noticeable in the city, where we lacked smoke grenades (or at least I didn't have any). So there was no chance to use smoke cover. Suppression was the way to go there, but when we lost comms it really made the guerrilla experience complete. I was yelling about that tank into TeamSpeak because I had spotted it and was giving flanking orders right when I realized no one could hear me. And then there it was...

Tao,
I tried out the Counter insurgency, and I have to say... Good job man!
I can't wait to get back into it.
