A little while ago, Slitherine and Lordz Studio, re-issued an improved version of Panzer General under the name of "Panzer Corps" which is distributed by Matrix Games one significant (not the only one) distributor of War Games. See August 2011 artcile by Tom "WKLINK" Cofield :
http://www.simhq.com/_land3/land_161a.htmlAfter issuing an extension in November 2011 called Grand Campaign 39 and Grand Campaign 40 they issued in December 2011 Grand campaign 41.
It is as easy and entertaining as was Panzer General yet they added several more level of difficulties which can make a more challenging War Game at hardest settings to reach a Decisive Victory for old Grognards like me. You can campaign against the AI or against a human Armchair General on line.
It works on Vista, Windows 7.
U can download it from Matrix, buy only the physical boxes or do both if you are in a hurry.
Here is the Matrix web address, take your time to peruse their catalog, they have serious War Games that Commissioned Officers sharpen their Strategic and Tactical skills with, on their down times.
http://www.matrixgames.com/01/13/12:
I just finished the grand campaign 1939 at FieldMarshal level of difficulty. It took approximately 2 weeks to achieve 14 Decisive Victories at:
Poznan
Danzig Corridor South
Danzig Corridor North
Lodz
Piatek
Wyszogrod
Kampinoska Forest
Modlin
Warsaw South
Warsaw North
Spoils of War
Oslo
Lillehammer
And Narvik.
Despite it's eye candy and entertaining interface, it is not a beginner game at the hardest setting. It will challenge your tactical creativity and your patience. It is more like an intermediate+ game. Yet it does not have the level of intricate details that "Conquest of the Aegan" i.e. delayed and distorted orders or simplier "Highway to the Reich" from Panther Games. It is definitively not Panzer General as some have thought.
As per the historical content, faithfull to reality, those campaign were not a "walk in the park" as propaganda and today's common knowledge would beleive there were.
So for those who beleive that the Western European powers folded like paper tigers under the 3rd Reich Army, come again!...They put up a good fight in 39-40!
So, if you were planning to get those grand campaigns but were hesitating, don't hesitate!....It is worth more than their monetary value (around $15.00 each, boxed and downloaded).
Then Grand Campaign 42 should be released at the end of this month.
Happy New Year Full of Joyful Surprises!
