<rant on> To my knowledge, most current video games, including this one, require a modern graphics card. I tried running this sim on my state of the art Pentium 286 machine with the Voodoo graphics card and strangely enough, it wouldn't run (just kidding, hey, I'm a sarcastic guy). Seriously, when in the hell is the dev team going to bring this relatively new flight sim up to something even approximating a base level graphics capability? It is such a beautiful game at so many levels, and with FSAA, it would be jaw droppingly georgeous. It would seem to me that implementing FSAA would be one of those basic things comprising that base level of graphics capability. I'm running a GeForce GTX 560ti graphics card and it constantly complains to me about the jaggies that it is forced to render. Enough already, get FSAA into the sim. Please. <rant off> You do know they are rewriting/optimizing the graphics engine, which should allow implementation of FSAA. where did you see that Chivas? We do know they are rewriting/optimizing the graphics engine, which common sense tells us if they succeed, then it should be quite possible to implement FSAA without killing frame rates.

What res you game at makes a difference as to the benefit you see from FXAA/FSAA.
Oh, and FSAA will NOT fix terrain shimmer. Standard MSAA as implemented in most games is edge-only. Textures aren't touched. The appeal of FXAA is that as it's a post-processing filter it just does EVERYTHING, from edges to textures to shadows to alpha textures. The negative is that it touches the text on-screen as well. SSAA would help the shimmer, but it's a performance-killer (something this sim has never had to spare). Look at the people talking about it in ROF as a comparison. They put SSAA in as an option for those with the serious terrain shimmer problem but it's really borderline useful in most cases due to the hit.

Common sense Chivas? im not saying anymore Maybe I should explain this even more. With the current graphic engine, etc, its impossible to apply AA or AF without completely killing the frame rates. If the rewrite/optimization has a considerable improvement its quite possible to apply AA and AF without dragging down the frame rates to much.

You know what's funny? It just occurred to me - the original Il-2/1946 doesn't support anti-aliasing... (in any of the options menus or the ini file!)

"Seriously, Is It Possible That FSAA Ever Gets Implemented in This Sim?"
In this sim: No.
In the sequel: Possibly.

Well, that's because it's based on an engine from 2001 that had little overall changes to it, and in 2001 the only FSAA was people with Voodoo 5's! Software FSAA was still years in the future. I mean, it took until A-10C for ED to get FSAA in-game for their sims, and now BS2 of course has it as well. I still have to turn it on driver-side for BS1 and FC2. The Jedi Master
