Euro-512 & Euro-256 Autumn terrain sets released! I now have changed the name to the 8 bit set as it should have been before to be called Euro-256 terrain. Right now Mike has them together...I have sent him a message about breaking them into 512 & 256 sets as the other terrains are. You can download both now and inside is 2 sub folders one for the 256 set and one for the 512 set. Also in the Euro-256 set I have a pic of what I used for "configure game screen" settings when tested in "Glide" Well glad to get them out for Christmas for evryone who want to try something new. Merry Christmas!

Thanks guys! Hope you get a chance to take a peek at the tiles....let me know of any issues. CG..yup Winter is next...still very early...but I have been sorting out how I want to go about it. Winter tiles have alway gave me fits! Never been happy with my efforts in the past....but things are looking good so far on a few "cold & icy" 512 tiles! Desert 512..hmmmmm. I have been working some on alt. versions of the original Euro-512 tiles then Autumn came...now it's winter. We can always add it to the list! I have a small list of future updates...such as darker city tiles in the "lighter" Euro-512...maybe a train station on outskirts of the city tiles...more bridges in the city tiles and ship/dock texture on the rivers and so on...let me know of other ideas. It really helps me get what others would like to see. Hope you like the new tiles and Merry Christmas!

Hi Shawn. This is not meant as criticism, so please don't take offense. One thing I'd like to see is a terrain with less ploughed fields for Spring, and less Green fields for Autumn. Also the colour of ploughed soil does not change with the seasons so it stays much as it would in Summer, but of course in Summer the corn fields are light Brown. Maybe you can mix the tiles so you have more contrast in the soil colour. The darker cites are a must, and with the extra bridges and docks. I know all this is a BIG ask, and I'm very happy with what you have done so far, but it's just a few ideas for the future. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

What would be offensive is if I thought "my" way was alway best and right.....and finally the only way! The Autumn terrain was built just using filters...which change tint and what not. The problem was the coast/water/rivers had to be layed in and blended in at total different settings. Blending is the hardest thing....I had soooo many textures with Euro-512 I loved but they didn't "work" so to say with the whole set well. This was my problem with some textures with autumn tiles as well..they just didn't "look" right. I mentioned before I wanted more red/orange/yellow with the tree textures and I did alot of tiles with that effect. In the end they never looked "right" to me...but I liked the overall look to this terrain and wanted to move on at this point to some winter tiles decided it was good enough...for now. I agree less green and maybe even less plowed fields to this autumn set would be great. I guess I look at all these 512 tiles as beta or base tiles because I can add and update a little here and there over time to make them better. I hope others offend me as well with their opinions..hehehe... Also was just fooling with cleaning up more folders in prep for winter tile work and deleted some mapped tiles...I coudn't remember if I mentioned that one thing I worked hard on the Euro-512 tiles were putting farms and building texture close to where they pop up in the game...see here... there were limits and didn't do the trees. not only do we have to blend the edges to meet each other...and the tint so each tile matches the look to each other...we have to have the farms painted where they pop up in 3d. It's not perfect but better than I have done in the past...hahahhaa. I have saved what you have posted as with other past thoughts of others and hope to add to the terrain someday. It will be nice to have this weekend to relax around the house...best present ever! HOHOHO

Hi Shawn. I like the extra farms. We all think these days farms are buildings set in a large expanse of land, but they all used to be like small holdings of a few acres, and only since the war have they all been sized up by one farmer buying off his neighbors.

Hi Saggs, OK suggestions .... very few villages aren't on a road of some size or other... conversely most roads develop between towns/villages so we should have more settlements on roads.... most river crossings (especially big rivers) would have developed a town of some size around them.... most cities had an industrial area or two, often near the rivers and or railyards... equally most major estuaries in europe developed trading towns on them as they gave access to the sea, so a coastal river mouth/city tile would be nice... Canals played a big part in european industrial transport in the 1940's, so some canal tiles would be nice... in most of central europe, strip farming took place and the land had a very distinctive appearance, not at all like northern France and England... Once we have tested the opportunity Jell is giving us for 256 tiles, many of these options can be looked at again cheers, Pobs

Jel...if there is european map with 256 tiles I will do my best to make a terrain of 256 tiles. Thanks pobs for the feedback...I agree more little villages are needed. EAW repeats tiles so much it's not always good to have...too much of anything. I did try to add villages on tiles that didn't repeat as often like bridge tiles one on the rail tile river and chose the road tile bridge. I worried much like the bridges over the city river tiles that one too many bridges might look funny. So decided to do one little built up area to include a small train station and guess no big bridge like in the coast tile would not have a little city near it...see here.. I think the coast line tiles and the field tiles are the ones that repeat too often and thus shows up to look funny. I have thought that the outskirts of the city tiles could have been used better. Maybe I was just working to get tiles done and some (good enough for now set in). I love the idea of a industrial area on a city edge tile....and better use of the city/river edge tile could be used better to include docks and such. I did a few strip farming tiles...and almost used one of the bnfield (1,2 or 4) tiles in that way....it looked kinda funny....that is also one of the alt versions I was thinking having and set of field tiles that give a more central european look to the terrain. Awesome stuff!

Hi Shawn. Don't encourage Tony. Or you might just have 255 tiles to do before your even ready to start painting! One thing that needs to be done before anything is set in stone, and that is tile names. If you go for the Full Monty you need to think up logical names for the new ones.
