Beautiful AAR! Very much fun to read. I completely agree about the problems with tracks. In fact those problems are the only things which have kept me from posting AARs with respect to my flights in this wonderful sim. It is such a chore to try and create something out of a screwed up track.

I actually got pretty obsessive with that one. I started at about 3 PM with the actual flight and then started replaying and replaying the Track file in order to get the shots that I wanted (over 150 in the end!). By the time I'd finished the editorial process of deciding which 50 I wanted to work with, it was gone 11 PM and my girlfriend wanted to go to bed because she had to get up early for work.

I went to bed, but all I could think about was the AAR so I got back up and went back into the den to start writing the story. That took me until about 3 AM and it was another half hour before I'd uploaded everything to SimHQ. I then spent another half hour re-reading everything and doing some final grammar and spelling fixes.

It was gone 4 by the time I went back to bed, by which time I'd spent over 12 hours on that one AAR.

To be honest, it would have been much faster if it hadn't been for the dodgy, unreliable Track file replays. I was constantly crashing into hills or getting shot down by entities that I'd actually destroyed in the mission. If anyone's wondering why I didn't show the punchlines to my rocket and cannon strafing runs, it's because the replay had me firing slightly to the left of my targets in every case.

It's disappointing that the primary tool for engaging with the ED/SimHQ competition is so flaky. Oddly, I never had this problem with the original Black Shark.

Hah. I know the feeling. The obsession and the frustration.

I had to re-fly the ending of the mission for which I posted the AAR due to a crash in vortex ring that originally I had actually recovered from.

As irritating as the track replayability may be (I never recorded/replayed any tracks in original BS), it actually opens new avenues when working on an AAR: the story can unfold in a number of ways, as I mentioned at the end of my contribution. Like alternative time strands of sorts. I kinda like that aspect. Though it may be also depriving us of more contributions. Too bad.

Still, I had a lot of fun creating my AAR and would have done it regardless of the competition.

LOL...I too know the feeling. I have spent hours upon hours in the past on AARs only to be very, very tired in the end. I then swear I'll never do another but eventually I do. Been a while though since I have done one for any simulation recently. I feel your pain on the DCS series track record engine...it causes too many headaches...but clearly your love for this sim has propelled you past it. I'll say it again...beautifull AAR...it really shows how much hard work you've put into it.

It's funny - I was contemplating doing one more AAR and I'd mentally settled on "Courier" as the mission I was going to use. I'd also decided to do a twist on the briefing where I used my Landing Lights rather than my Night Vision to locate the UAZ. Looks like you beat me to it on all fronts.

I took the time to read all other entries and I'll have to say that I really enjoyed all of them! I wish good luck to all contestants though.

All are great, but I particularly enjoyed "Deep Strike", had me on the edge of my seat.
