I just bought BOB2 for 20$ off the A2A site and immediately I regret purchasing it. I've installed the 2.11 update first of all.

Now right off the bat, I've gotten a freeze and a CTD.

Aside from that the campaign mode is confusing as hell and features no explanation that I saw. All of the words on all of the menus throughout the game are abbreviated and shortened so you have to make up words until you figure out what each option means.

When in the controls menu every control I set seems to disappear whether I click save changes or not. I've had to map my throttle and rudder on multiple occasions and it still doesn't want to stick. I can't map buttons because for some reason every time I click an option, a button input is automatically applied despite me not pressing a single button.

I'm just baffled! I cannot understand how this game could be considered good, godly AI or not. If anyone has suggestions as to what specific mods I need to make things look better and work better, how the hell to setup my TM Warthog with this game, how to work the campaign map, any tweaks and alterations in the files needed just whatever I need to do to make my 20$ worth it because so far I'm extremely disappointed.

You will probably find things rather easier going once you bother to read the manual. At ~400 pages
it is the most thorough ever offered for a flight sim. You will find it, oddly enough, in the "docs"
subfolder.

Great, 400 pages.

I think I'll pass in that case.

BoB2 is a thorough recreation of the Battle of Britain, Redpiano (I assume your the same redpiano over at ROF?) that models the entire theatre of operations at a 1:1 scale. Did you really expect to pick up and play without a little RTFM?

The original developers (Rowan) where not the greatest at simple interfaces but the sheer dpeth of BoB2 is worth perservering with as the campaign is a sheer joy to behold.

Stick with it, its not that hard (honest)!

Hi Repiano,

Here is a link with some information for new BOBII players.

http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=11406

The A2A web site is the location of the BOBII forums. Just read the "Sticky" threads for hints on setting up your game.

http://a2asimulations.com/forum/index.php

I have no idea what your PC specs are so I can not help with your issues but I can tell you I am not working any active CTD and BOBII has never had a hang. Your virus software may be a cause of a hang. See this thread for some tips:

The controls chapter of the User Manual should help you set up your joystick and buttons. It sounds like you are not saving your changes.

Here is a link to the User Manual and controls sticky thread:

I am indeed the same redpiano.

I wasn't expecting to find it easy and I apologize for jumping the gun.

My problems so far are technical issues though, I'll learn the campaign map over time.

But my controls will not configure because the menu's make no sense. To begin with you have a drop down menu with a list of your controllers and the "express" option is clicked by default. So I select a controller and click custom, I set up my axes and click save. But if I change the controller int he drop down box, all my settings are removed.

When I try to configured actual button presses for things such as trim, engine control etc. buttons are automatically input when I click any of the control boxes despite none of my buttons being pressed when I select the box; this is making it impossible to configure the necessary controls such as engine cycle.

If someone can help me with that I can figure everything else out just fine. I imagine the control problem has something to do with the fact that I'm using the thrustmaster warthog, it has metal flip switches that I'm guessing may be causing the automatic button flipping issue. The real problem there is I can't figure out which button is being applied to the controls because all the controls are abbreviated in some weird way like A2_B12 or something like that.

I found the problematic button, on the warthog throttle there is a flip switch on the left side of the throttle and no matter what position it's in it'll input a control option when I select a control in BOB2. It doesn't cause this issue with any other game so I don't know what to do about it.

Most of this data is in the User Manual (located in your BOBII folder in the Docs folder) with Pic's but maybe this will help you. Sorry, I do not have or understand your joystick as I am a CH (CH FighterStick and CH Pro Pedals) player.

Go to CONTROLLERS->CUSTOM NOTE: Be sure your joystick is selected in the pull down list.

This is where you can assign the main joystick axis.
Left click on the required axis under the "assign axis" list. The axis should be highlighted red. The move the required axis in it's full range of motion and it should be recognised.

1)If you make a mistake with the axis assignment, highlight the one you want to undo then click on "clear" to return to it's default setting.

2)Repeat until all main axis have been assigned to your liking.
Once complete, click on CONTINUE (top right of screen). And when asked if you want your changes saved, click on YES.

3)IMPORTANT. Now, exit the game back to desktop, then restart it. The game does not permanently keep any changes or settings unless it has been quit & restarted.

Her is a pic of my CH assignments:

4)Goe back to controllers, then click on KEYMAPPING.

5)Scroll through the list, and left click with the mouse once to highlight the current button/key assign to the control of your choice. At the bottom, a message will appear:

"polling input devices.. please press the button you want to map, or the "cancel" button to stop polling. Press "clear" button to remove a mapping."

When you press the required stick button or key, this should be recognised and listed by the function you wanted to remap.

Repeat for all commands required. NOTE: you "must hit save in the lower left corner or your keys will not be saved.

Here is a post I made at the BOBII Technical forum for anyone with a Warthog stick. I am not sure what it means but it could help. You may want to post as well.

Thank you buddye, the person that replied was correct. I had both the flaps switch and the ignition switches in an active position.

Problem fixed, I'll figure out the campaign from the manual. Thanks for the help guys.
