That sounds good. Thanks for your impression. Since two resolutions are unlikely to be available for the same price, I'll assume it's 800x600 native. But 1500$? With the FullHD ST1080 and HD Cinemizer720p and HMZ-T1 all costing in there neighborhood of 800$, they have to change something quick. No, they have another for $800 which is 800x600, and mine could auto-reduce a 1024 or 1280 field to the 800x600 display, so I would assume the 1024 is the native res for the 2000. But I agree, these guys and eMagin who make the Z800, also available on that site, pretty much had the sub-$2000 headset display field all to themselves for about five years, and now lots of new players are stepping into it, so they are going to be sharpening their pencils on pricing right quick.

As far as I know, eMagin is leaving the consumer market and focusing on the military.

As far as I know, eMagin is leaving the consumer market and focusing on the military. It was just temporary, to return to consumer market: eMagin has been awarded a $1.12 million SBIR seven month project from the US's Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) to optimize emagin's WUXGA (1920x1200) full color OLED microdisplay for mass production. There's also a six-month option to extend the project further for $435,000. Article @ Oled Info

I have high hopes for SiliconDisplay's ST1080. The good news is that the product exist, the bad is that their 1080p mode only works at 24Hz (60 Hz at 720p). I will wait until they release the displayport version that they promised.
Regarding eMagin, I don't expect much. Their consumer product actually is obsolete and has been years since we hear anything coming from them. I heard their optics are one of the best though, if they are back would be excellent news.
With Sony's success, we can hope this will be the year for HDM.

I tried the original IL-2 with 3D glassses on a NVidia card about 10 years ago. The 3D effect was pretty good but the card couldn't really give decent refreshes at an acceptable resolution and it was a laggy mess in the air with TIR. However I did try the original Operation Flashpoint and that was incredible, very good 3D especially in forests and looking through the iron sights. I'd imagine that the Arma series would work very well if you had the grunt in the card to push pixels.

I've been using an Asus VG278H 27 inch 1920x1080 monitor with built in Nvidia 3D Vision 2 for the past 2 months. The immersion with 3D is incredible. It is not quite the Holo Deck of the Enterprise. But, there are definitely times when I feel like I am really there in a plane flying in the real world. The Nvidia 3D Vision 2 doesn't darken the image as all of the previous 3D technologies that I tried do. I did have to upgrade my video card from a GTX 550 Ti because it didn't quite have the power to double the image and still get decent frame rates.
For now this is my 3D solution. It is so good that I'm sure it will be a couple of years before the head sets reach the resolution and price levels that I am holding out for, which is pretty close to the resolution and price of the VG278H set. But, when they do, I know I will be wearing one.
I have done a few other tricks to try to increase my immersion level, like extending my joystick handle 12 inches and bungeeing my sub-woofer to the bottom of my chair to feel the vibration of the engine and guns where I think it should be felt. Of course, I also use Track IR 5. The most dramatic leap by far was adding 3D Vision 2.
In CloD I had to turn off shadows and I avoid large bodies of water because they don't render right. I mostly play RoF and It Is Beautiful. I turned off Post Effects and also Icons because they don't render at the correct depth, but that just made me learn to fly without them which is a bonus. There are other threads that cover these details better.

I (pre)ordered the ST1080. It does 1080p@60hz for 2d and 3d @720@60hz. Being able to play Clod, RoF and DCS A10 on a virtual 100inch screen is enough reason for me to get one. Once the 3d@60hz version is released my wife gets the old one for watching movies. 1080p@60 in 2d at this pricepoint is pretty good. I've been watching Sensics and their Oled 1680x1050 solution sells for $10k+.

I wonder if with the new 4.11īs 3D cockpits IL-2 is completely 3D compatible now. I love the dynamic shadows of Clod, but my real appeal was 3D. Since the game is not ready yet, maybe is time to experiment with old 1946. With the mods, 1946 is a really good looking game and frame rates are not an issue.
