I've flown Lomac using 3d glasses many years ago, and the impact was not underwhelming in the least. Turning the plane on its side and looking down gave me a quick fear of falling. 30,000 feet not only looked, but felt, like 30,000 feet. The technology, a bit young at the time (and I'm not sure if it's gotten better) ruined the hud for me (seeing double reticules isn't helpful ... which one do I place on the tank down there?) and made the combat nearly impossible ... but the experience of flight was greatly enhanced.
It also worked pretty well with MSFS, which I didn't have to worry about the hud.

The problem was not the hardware, but the game. You need a complete 3D cockpit, that double reticule was only a fixed image without 3D data, duplicated on each eye.

I understand that CoD cockpits are fully 3D rendered.

Ah, thanks Aullido, that totally makes sense. I imagine that DCS titles would be amazing as well. I would definitely go 3d again if there were decent sized/priced monitors; 3d really did add to the experience.

No not a 45 view, That's a close up by hitting the delete key and looking down, Here is a better view...well as best i can guess...Its my view when I'm flying casual. In 720p at this view I can still see the dials and numbers to a point. For some of the little ones I have to zoom in,but for most combat I don't.

Rgr. Well, with head tracking you'd lean forward for closer scrutiny of the numbers, but checking the needle positions is a 'glance down' blink of an eye thing and that looks OK. Getting the FoV setting right in the game will be interesting. A bit too much zoom and you'll get a slight binocular effect, too wide and it'll be trippy.

Here's an interesting 2 part 'lecture' on FoV by FZD School of Design:

We are used to change zoom deeps constantly (that equals to a change on FOV). Part of the problem is the small screens we have, having a virtual huge screen will help, but I think we still will use zoom, since we loss peripherical vision.

This one is also just out, a fair bit more expensive, but it includes
a built-in 6DOF head tracker:
http://www.vrealities.com/vr2000.html

I have a previous model by these guys, which was only 800x600; it was a bit of
a problem reading HUD text, but as far as the world, the moving field of view caused
by head motion (I was using TIR with it, mounted on headphones, so yes, my head
was fairly well populated) resulted in smoothing of the image so the low resolution
didn't really bother me. 3D effect was very cool in the cockpit, and you could
get the effect outside while on the ground, and just notice it while flying low
over detailed terrain (ie under 50ft). The FOV was only 35 degrees, which was a
bit claustrophobic, like having blinders on, made for a lot of neck movement, but
after a very little while, the ability to see all around you with natural correspondence
to your view direction really deepened immersion. It has to be the wave of the future.

That sounds good. Thanks for your impression. Since two resolutions are unlikely to be available for the same price, I'll assume it's 800x600 native. But 1500$? With the FullHD ST1080 and HD Cinemizer720p and HMZ-T1 all costing in there neighborhood of 800$, they have to change something quick.

I fly ROF in 3D, but I couldnīt get the shadows of CoD working in 3D (wrong depth). Perhaps I did something wrong in the options, but otherwise it is a show stopper. Furthermore I got crazy colors in the cockpit, but that might be corrected by some tweaking I didnt find out.

Have you turned off the silly epilepsy filter that they had to incorporate? If not, turn that sucker off! Hope that helps.
