It looks nice, how is the code holding up? I've heard that it needs some patching out of the box.

easy pickings, right? Not quite...he has infantry with RPGs. They hurt! Another tank - another RPG hit. No KIA/WIA, but crew bailed out. APC got hit with infantry inside. They runned around on fire for a bit. Iranian APCs on fire Infantry discovered few HE rounds

screens look great... I still can't figure out how to even enter the battle from the tac screen, lol... guess I MUST read the manual, just finding the time to do that is hard.

I had the same problem initially...you can only enter a battle if a unit with tanks you can control is involved. So if its a battle involving only infantry or mech. infantry, you won't be able to enter the tactical battle and it will be auto-resolved. Look for the green tank icon on the strategic map, those are units you can control directly.

Click "clock" icon on a bottom middle-right. Than "play" (1X Speed) on a bottom middle-left It doesn't become available for me, always greyed out so cannot play either. I didn't realise it was by Achtung Panzer devs as I hated the interface in that game and it's the same awful layout in this too! Sometimes menus can't be clicked at all, buttons not lighting up etc....

It's a digital copy from D2D. I like the 3D combat but getting there is a major pain!
Still can't play this though!

Quick 'n dirty guide of getting from campaign turn based mode to your tank, if that's the issue. http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3498184.html#Post3498184SB looks a lot sharper and higher res, everything in Steel Armor looks a bit blurry and aliased, probably with too strong normal mapping too. Steel Armor has nicer particle effects, shadows, and details like that.

Took out an APC with the coax as the main gun wouldn't fire. Watching the loader was cool. Once I get the hang I can see me liking it.

Hi Mace,
The interface is confusing when you start but do stick with it.
Once things get familiar you'll start to notice more and more good stuff.

I have worked it out now and with Achtung Panzer (so I have just bought Operation Star too) and it's a great tank sim. Are most missions at night though?

There should be a thing in the options to disable night battles, otherwise it's based on the time of the day in the operation. Each turn is a few hours and if you have night battles turned on, you may want to conduct any major attacks while you have daylight (current time should be shown on the turn-based phase screen).
