All Xbox 360's will run all Xbox 360 Games (why do people assume they wont is beyond me, or why some sites say they wont.)

the draw back of the 4GB version of the console is you have no storage space for huge updates, DLC, addons and stuff.

BF3 for the 360 uses lower resolution textures/mapping unless you install the High Definition Textures to the Harddrive
*(Which a 4GB doesnt have enough space after formatting and creating a profile etc etc etc).

Let alone the 2.07 GB BF3 that was just released.

the Drawback for you on a 4GB console now is that you wont be able to run the HD Textures, nor the update, which means you won't be able to play online.

if you can get a USB Drive of at least 20 GB and that will solve that problem.

a USB drive is just like a hard drive, so yes... but it has to be big enough.

Just a word of caution with the thumbdrive: you need to partition part (or all) of it for Xbox use. I recommend getting a thumbdrive for exclusive Xbox use if you intend to go this route, and expect a couple of gigabytes to be dedicated to "overhead". You can probably find an old 20Gb Xbox HDD for a song as well (try Gamestop); this should be fine if you don't plan on playing a lot of different games. Also, now that Xbox supports cloud computing, you can store your savegames on the cloud, freeing up your limited space.
