I've recently installed IL2-46 under Vista 64, patched to 4.10.1m and have since installed UP3 and DBW. But both before and after the mods, when kicking off an RAAF New Guinea campaign with 453 Sqdn flying Beaufighters, on loading it up and selecting aircraft customisation, I see my unit is now listed as a US bomber squadron, nation US, and my plane has mid-war USAAF national markings. No other options are available. I remember having this same problem from a previous IL2 PF install, many moons ago. I got around it then by installing an RAAF Beau skin and disabling markings. But that shouldn't be necessary. With '46 and the mods I hoped this would have been long fixed but it's still happening.

Can't find a solution here, but have checked the campaign's status.dat file which shows further evidence of the problem:

I'm guessing I could fix this by hand-editing the file which transposes or otherwise screws up the squadron data from 453 RAAF to this USAAF Bomb group, if I could find the source (wherever the status.dat file is getting that bogus squadron data from) and knew what to do, when I found it, but can't (find it), and don't (know what to do if I could).

Any pointers or suggestions would be gratefully received! TIA!

If I remember right my squadron kept flying into the hills in that campaign. Was that fixed?

The fix I am having you try will most likely not fix a campaign that is already generated. You will need to generate a new campaign to see any changes.

The problem is that the 453 squadron is not listed in the [OOB] list in the NewGuinea.DB file. The NewGuinea1.DB file has the same problem. Make a copy of the NewGuinea.DB and NewGuinea1.DB files before altering them just in case something goes wrong.

After making the copy of them open the original files and alter the [OOB] section to include the three missing RAAF squadrons.

Original [OOB] list.
Code:
[OOB]
=75SquadronRAAF=76SquadronRAAF=77SquadronRAAF=30SquadronRAAF=

There are several more squadrons listed but they do not need to be altered. We were lucky that the RAAF squadrons were listed first making them easy to find. smile

Altered [OOB] list.
(Notice the = sign at the beginning and end of the squadron list for the RAAF. It seems to be the way that DGen designates the end of a particular countries squadron list. New countries start a new line.)
Code:
[OOB]
=21SquadronearlyRAAF=21SquadronBRAAF=453SquadronearlyRAAF=75SquadronRAAF=76SquadronRAAF=77SquadronRAAF=30SquadronRAAF=

The squadronsRA1.dat shows that the 453 squadron should be available but the [OOB] file in NewGuinea.DB and NewGuinea1.DB files does not have it on the list.

squadronsRA1.dat file
  • 21SquadronearlyRAAF
  • 21SquadronBRAAF
  • 453SquadronearlyRAAF
  • 30SquadronRAAF
  • 75SquadronRAAF
  • 76SquadronRAAF
  • 77SquadronRAAF

The four squadrons that are blue in color are the ones that are shown listed in the [OOB] section. I made the changes to the [OOB] list that I mentioned earlier and when I generated the second campaign the squadron insiginias changed.

Career - 1 before altering the [OOB] list. (Notice that I have the same squadron as the one in your initial post.)

Brilliant - thanks for taking the time to set all that out, Wheelsup!! Most grateful!

Pilgrim, maybe thru pilot rank choice I ended up leading the flight of Beaus so I managed to avoid decorating the Owen Stanley range with my planes. The P-40 escorts seemed to have no trouble.
