Thatcher should play Streep.

My character somehow got all twisted up. I was playing the mission where you have to infiltrate the Golden Glow Estate and do multiple things. When I was out burning beehives and fighting I just eventually ran away to view my success from a distance. I first noticed it when I squated down on a tree trunk.Coot..the squatter../simHQ/2011

I find the premise a bit too "easy": a decrepit, mentally reduced Thatcher looking back on her life. I mean, every person who ever lived long enough, ended up being "less than they were" at their prime. That's the human condition equal for all. Do we really need to demean someone like that? - Isn't it a bit too easy of a point? - What next, Reagan or Churchill wearing diapers at age 90?

I'll call it "even" then since UK actors have previously portrayed Benjamin Franklin, Richard Nixon, Lee Harvey Oswald, Thomas Jefferson and many others.

LMAO!! Yeah, between Helen Mirren and Judy Dench, they've done a ton of movies where they portrayed some British queen. I can't count Cate Blanchett since she's Australian.

Why would a portrayal of fact be considered 'demeaning' or offensive, frey? It would probably only upset those who subscribe to her Cult of Personality and those who deify her. Besides, the real reason for this angle is a basic tenet of screenwriting technique; she is portrayed in this (factually correct) way for a dramatic purpose. Namely that the audience feels 'empathetic attachment', which sustains interest in the story's protagonist.
Having 'empathy' is not necessarily the same as liking a person, the point is that the audience is hopefully compelled to see things from the characters POV, whether they are sympathetic to it or not. Bruno Ganz's mesmerising portrayal of Hitler is a good example, in that it seeks to show a 'human' side instead of merely a plain old nasty 'monster'. Any comparisons with Hitler and The Milk Snatcher, real or imagined are entirely coincidental.
I'm sure Streep will do a great job in getting down the mannerisms and 'aura'. She is a superb actress and mimic. As for the person herself in reality.....If you've got nothing good to say, best to say nothing at all.
Will be interesting to see if her cosy and affectionate relationship with mass murderer, torturer and despot General Pinochet is touched upon though; peoples anger at the Poll tax, staggering levels of mass unemployment, social disintegration and appalling child poverty etc will receive much attention. 'Little things' like that. Reports I've read on first screenings from both right and left media have it that it is a very 'sympathetic' portrayal. Pass the sick bucket, please. Somewhat ironic that the woman who once infamously claimed that 'there is no such thing as society', is now reliant on that very 'society' she abhorred to get her through the day.
Not her biggest fan to say the least, but not quite petty or vindictive enough to wish her harm or misery. I'm a nice guy. Probably in a bit of a minority having some compassion in my part of the world and elsewhere however, a compassion she did not display much of herself.
Might watch it when its out on DVD. Might throw something at the telly, too.
I'm being nice. Stephen Patrick has no such qualms. Take it away, Mozza.

Never heard of her. She hasn't managed to cross the Pond yet I guess.
I saw Bruno Ganz last night in Unknown with Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger. He played an old former-Stasi that gets mixed up in the action. Very good if small role.

For years I thought Alec Guinesses' performance as Hitler was very good until I saw "Downfall". Of course Ganz had the big advantage of playing the role in German and not English.

Oh yeah, she has. Almeida, New York, Jo Papp's, Gramercy and Brooklyn Academy of Music are a few venues.

I agree. Hitler should always be played in German with sub-titles as required and preferably by someone of convincing likeness.

I couldn't name you a single current stage actor who hasn't crossed over into movies and/or tv. And of course there are plenty of film/tv actors who have crossed over to stage.

Margaret Thatcher could be given a state funeral but the former prime minister does not want members of the public to pay their respects while she lies in state, plans briefed to The Sunday Times have revealed.
In what would be the first state funeral for a commoner since Winston Churchill, the plans, which were originally mooted by Tony Blair in 2006, would require a parliamentary motion to receive official state backing. And with cabinet secretary Francis Maude set to disclose further details this week, the Iron Lady has been characteristically firm with her funeral plans, requesting:
To lie in state in Westminster Hall, with viewing restricted to MPs and Lords An orchestra playing Edward Elgar’s Land of Hope and Glory A procession from Westminster to St Paul’s Cathedral She has rejected a military flypast And finally, she wishes to be laid to rest beside Denis Thatcher in the cemetery of the Royal Chelsea Hospital.
The ceremony is likely to be something of a 1980s reunion, with Nancy Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev heading the list of overseas personalities from the glory years. The Cold War stalwarts will likely stir a sense of nostalgia from patriots harking back to the days of mass strikes, high unemployment and state malaise.
