Hi all
Propably the dumbest question ever, but I can't find the answer online, in the manual or in the key layout. How do you selective jettison stores, for example the drop tanks?
Thanks, regards
Helmut

Use S-J page in MFD. Select desired tanks, Master Arm on and pickle. This is explained in detail in the BMS 2 Manual.pdf, para 6.9 or in the AF Manual page 388. Not a dumb question...

As a side note, I often select the tanks in S-J prior to take off, and if you look on the HUD you'll see JETT on the bottom left corner when it's active. However if you switch to A-A or A-G modes, the S-J page is unselected and hitting the pickle will launch whatever weapon you have selected instead of dumping the fuel tanks.

Page 328 of the AF manual also talks about the Emergency Jettison. Push and hold to jettison ALL A-G stores, including tanks. This is for emergencies only, so I find it handy when I've been jumped and need to make a quick escape, without the time to select individual stores.

Emergency Jettison = Admiral's Doorbell in the Hornet.

LOL, I had to look that up: Admiral’s Doorbell The yellow button in an F/A-18 cockpit that jettisons all the external stores in an emergency. If you hit it, you’ll be “ringing the admiral's doorbell” to explain why.

Well, you can do this in the Viper also as long as you toggle the Jett Enable switches and in a pinch, hit the magic button on the right side of the pit. It dumps all external non-AtoA stores though including tanks.

Whose doorbell you're ringing if you do this in an air force jet? I'd rather drop the bombs normally than jettisoning them. It's faster that way (for me at least; the whole jettison procedure is too complicated to do when I'm panicking).

Well... It kinda is a bad idea to drop live ordinance over friendly territory. :P If you happen to be jumped when on your way to target (like often happens if you fly online) and have a couple MRM's in MPRF mode coming at you, sometimes you need to do a split S and get outta dodge fast! So, yeah, umm, jettisoning makes a lot of sense. However, you might not care if your bombs hit some unsuspecting persons house. I do.

Haha, yes, I should've paid more attention to that. I blame it on those Sukhois suddenly appear on the RWR and set all the bells off . And in case you're suspecting, yes, I'm that kind of virtual pilot who often forget to jettison the droptanks in dogfights and wonders why on earth this bird fly like a DC-9..
