Nope, and nor will X Rebirth have it. Doubt it'll happen in an X game, at least not in the next 5+ years.

PS- It's the first X3 game to support TrackIR, which bodes well for the next big game from Egosoft- XRebirth, which WILL have cockpits

Nice! Going to hold off until the new one, but great news about TiR and cockpits.

TrackIR is the only reason I haven't really jumped into X3. This is gonna dig into my free time...

Wow I had bought the "X Superbox" on Steam in the previous sale (last Christmas?), and now that X3 Albion Prelude came out, it just showed up as available to install for me in Steam as part of the package free without having to pay the $9.99.

So for anyone else that may have bought that "X Superbox" on steam, take a look and you might have a nice additional free add-on.

Soooo quick question--is this worth the coin or should I wait for the next X? I currently only have X3:R...

Given the price today, you might just want to throw caution to the winds and try it yourself.

I'm not sure if it is "me", but for €5 I reckoned I could not go too far wrong...

Yeah, it tempted me too much. 5.00 for TC+Albion on Steam, I couldn't resist.

The TrackIR implementation is laughable. You can look around a bit, but the boresight crosshair always stays centered in the middle of the screen. And with no cockpit, you have no frame of reference to tell you when you are looking straight forward. Fail.

Also, I can't for the life of me get my Warthog to work with it. X3 doesn't support multiple controllers, but even when I use the TARGET software to combine stick and throttle into one controller, it will not recognize any command from the throttle. Spent hours screwing with it, no joy. Very frustrated and disappointed. I played the crap out of Terran Conflict a few years back with my X52, and I was really looking forward to revisiting the X universe.

I had an older version of X3, the one before TC came out I think, and I couldn't get into it. Maybe it's the learning curve is too steep for someone like me that has no time to spend on trial and error anymore. I got the feeling it could've used some tutorials or intro missions or SOMETHING. Instead I felt like "Ah...I'm in a ship cockpit. In space. Lots of stars. Um..."

So I gave up on it.

Try it with a Cougar if you have one... works great with my stick/rudder/pedals all plugged in through one port.

Oh, and aren't there mods for Terran Conflict to give it cockpits? I know in X3:R there are and I run it.

Edit:

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=246443

Check there plus there are links for additonal cockpits. I never could handle X3:R without cockpits. It needs them. Freespace 2 now supports Track IR and in even that I get mixed up with just the hud so I have a cockpit modded into that, too.

Here, watch a video of them:

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=246443

Yes, those mods all work with Terran Conflict and give it cockpits! smile

Now, the question is... Can Albion be used with X-Tended mod? I guess I'll have to mess with it and see.

Renic- have you made an effort to investigate the ingame settings? You can adjust them so that the cockpit view panning doesnt snap back to center view. ANd at 2560x1600 i can see the sides of my ship when i look around, so that provides some frame of reference (although a cockpit would be better), as well as the nose of the shp when i look straight ahead. Also, i never had any porblems getting my CH hotas and rudder pedals wokring/recognized in the game.

Yep, I've got the cockpit mod for TC, pretty well done too. I think someone mentioned it in the big X3 sticky thread.

I haven't played around with in-game the settings too much. I finally got my controls to work, but then the voices stopped working. I got fed up with it and haven't touched it in a few days.

I thought I read on EgoSoft's forums that previous mods weren't compatible with Albion Prelude. If I can get the sound working, I'll look into cockpits for AP.

Track IR is working really well for me in X3:AP. No tweaking needed.
I am using TrackIR 5 and the Track Clip Pro thingie that attaches to the side of a headset.
What's cool is that with the mouse cursor centered, I have the ability to shoot in the direction of wherever I am looking (within limits of the axis capability of the weapons). This makes off angle attacks and tracking moving targets much easier.
