If you are talkng about the 2 shapes on the back side of the Arizona.

I believe they are markers showing the positions of the other BB's on Battleship Row and other ships that were sunk. There is a whole row of them along the shore.

Those are the moorings that the battleships were tied up to on the morning of December 7, 1941.

Our local ABC affiliate station played a story from Greg Black that stated that the Pearl Harbor attack was perpetrated by Japanese fighter "jets". I emailed them to the error and they laid it off on the spot being from CNN and they just played it. Who knows how many don't even know the difference? Good thing that planned follow up attack using Godzilla never went through.

At least they didn't mention that Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Germans!

When I see that picture of the Arizona it makes me think of how the width to length ratios were changing. Look at how short the Arizona is.

Arizona and her sister ship Pennsylvania were particularly 'beamy' battleships because of their protection against torpedo attack. This consisted of layered air and fuel spaces and an armoured layer almost ten feet inboard from the exterior shell, and was considered among the best protection in the world for these ships' times.
