http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=84867I'm not sure how I feel about Khan possibly showing up. A retelling of Space Seed COULD be good, or it could fail utterly. In fact, I think Nero was the weakest part of the last Star Trek. While on paper the character had a good motivation and all, in practice he had far too little screen time (perhaps owing to the needs of telling an "origin story" plus servicing the Nimoy stuff) and the only thing he really did with Kirk was a fight. Montalban himself mentioned he found ST2 unsatisfying to film because he had no scenes with Shatner, it was all done via viewscreen so only in editing did they play together. By contrast, they had many scenes together in the TOS episode and he enjoyed that immensely (as did the rest of us!) I definitely do NOT want an ST2 remake, but with all the potential out there (and the previous rumors of Klingons being the antagonists) I'm not certain Khan needs to surface now. The Jedi Master

Might as well go for it. Offhand, I can't think of any movie-only antagonists that have been any good, other than Christopher Plummer as Chang. Plus, if they're smart enough to not kill him off, it could set up another good premise for a movie later on. They wasted an opportunity with Eric Bana in the last one, If they had included the backstory it could have been really good. Doesn't make sense to have a good actor like that and not use him.

Agreed but like Jedi alluded to, I think there was just too much to juggle for a 2 hour film between the origin story for all the major characters and Nimoy's stuff. While I personally wouldn't have minded a 3 hour film in order to have had more stuff with Bana, I think movie audiences in general wouldn't have liked that.

Two words: Director's cut! Film it and stick it in the blu-ray! At least offer it to the home audience LOTR style.

Maybe they can include Khan by having the Enterprise do a time travel slip around the sun to the time of the Eugenics war, and have Kirk be the one that exile them in the Botany Bay... You know, an original story...because we know ST had never dealt with a time travel plot before...

I believe on the DVD cut scenes there is a lot more with Nero in it, more backstory about him after being damaged by USS Kelvin ramming him, getting caught by Klingons, meeting a younger version of himself on the Klingon prison planet (Romulans live for a long time just like Vulcans!) then he escapes at the time he beleives Spock will turn up through the black hole and goes to hunt him down... all in the cut scenes on the special edition DVD's

Top 5 most common plot devices in the Star Trek universe,
1. Transporter malfunction causing some sort of mayhem or emergency.
2. Alien race infiltrates the ship and takes it over.
3. Alien planet found that is stuck in some alternate past Earth history.
4. Time travel.
5. Crew member catches some kind of disease and brings it back on board infecting others.

You know, an original story...because we know ST had never dealt with a time travel plot before... They could tie into Enterprise (series) like that. Pretty cool storyline with all of that on the show. Leading up to AI (DATA) in the end, which was very cool. I wouldn't expect a "Wrath of Khan" copycat story, but based on the TOS lead in. Then do Wrath for the 4th reboot movie after some time passes.
