The warping about the nose has been corrected but I didn't put the new F3dz into the units' folder until after this photo session.

P.S. The Bf109G-2 units and the Mosquitos of No.305 Squadron "Polska" are still in progress. I'm mixing my skinning up a bit.

Hi Mike.

Nice work on this next multi-skin set.....

Four years ago I created a few skins for the 353th.FG.
I had forgotten about them until I saw your posting.
I remember having spent a lot of time jinking the skins to get that damn "Checker-Board" pattern looking right.

After dragging them up and dusting them off.
I noticed how bland they looked and how much they needed sprucing up.
Not enough detailing and they don't have the benefit of Ray's latest 3dz modelling.

Seems, thanks to your posting WinkNGrin I've found myself another winter project.

Could you tell me what your referrence source is.
I might also want to add to the inventory of my own 350th.FG skins....

Cheers mate pilot
David

Sky I use www.Littlefriends.co.uk for the 8thAF fighter squadron and groups.

And, I've revised the checkerboards. The individual boxes were a few pixels too large. Case in point, there are 3 boxes from the nose to the 1st exhaust pipe on the prototype so compare these new jpgs with the old.

I'm only doing 16. But, the Little Friends site is the best place for photos, codes, serials and pilot data for the fighters of the 8th AF in Europe. I've used it for all of my 'Little Friends' so far.

Sky, your checkerboards are better than the ones I've done. So, I'll steal them and give credit in the squadrons read.me.

Ok now, I started with the yellow/black checkerboard pattern Skylark slaved over in the far North and after a few hours of tinkering expanded the pattern to cover the 3 forms seen on the 350th Mustangs. And then put the squadron into its' final form. Finally, I could have saved my self a whole lotta time if I have found Sky's "Bettey E" before I started the final revamping but, such is life. A big thank you to David "Skylark" Philips for his original pattern work. yep notworthy

The 8-bit version is next. wave

Nice ponies, Mike - I like the aluminum panel effects thumbsup
What about a try with shiny metal?
The P-51s are so beautiful they need a special frame - IŽd prefer the circle of a Revi C12D...

Hi Ray,
You might be right...after all, I think we're also responsible for 'Sponge Bob' too... WinkNGrin

Hi Mike,
Glad I could help out.
You may not be aware of this but I started my hobby of skinning as a 'rivet counter' for other skinners
some years ago. At that time, I thought, if I'm coming to criticize the work of others, I'd damn well better
start turning out my own skins (sort of a 'money were your month is' moment) and so it began.
My first skin was fictitious which I named 'Skylark II' (boy, what an ego) the second was more historic
'Little Duckfoot' of the 357th.FG. Both were Mustangs. (somethings never change).
I think they're both still available at 'Tally-Ho' and so is a more recent HiRes version of 'Little Duckfoot'.
I'm still skinning, I just haven't been able to post them on 'Tally-Ho' lately but that's another story.
This also started to rekindle my interests in researching WW2 aircraft to a point were I now have
a rather large home library of some.
I mention this to add some credence to what I'm about to write next...
In one of my reference books it is mentioned that the 350th.FS. distinguished themselves from the
other 353th.FG. squadrons by outlining, in yellow, their squadron and aircraft codes.
(I know ... I'm a smart ass but a well meaning one).

Keep up the good work Mike...you seem to be our only skinner at the moment thumbsup

Cheers mates and Merry Christmas to you both pilot

David santa

Sky,

I have photos and illustrations that show the yellow outlines on some and not on others. I think that the yellow codes are from 1945. So, they should e good either way.

IM

P.S. what is the blockage for send your skin work to Sandy?
