Reading this at the moment. If you like a good old fashioned space-opera + hard sci-fi, this is your cup of tea!

nice! thanks for the recommendation.

I really dig the space operas. I know of Alastair Reynolds and Paul Mcauley(sp) (and now James Corey) so if you have any other authors or books to recommend in this genre do post!

Read this recently and loved it.

Would be quite the challenge to turn it into a film.

Yes thanks for the reccommnedation. I used to love reading Sci-fi and some how got out of the habit ( which pretty much goes for reading novels in general ).

So I thought this sounds right up my street, went to try and download the ibook version and for some reason they wont sell it to me as I live in the UK???

Some much for the global internet!

EDIT ** Ha, must have been being extra dopey last night, just went into ibooks and downloaded it straight away, thanks!**

Have a look at Stephen Sweeney too his tales are quite good, A Knights Tale is the start of a good series and I'm eagerly awaiting the 3rd book.
A Knights Tale is available as a free kindle book

I read this trilogy awhile back, very much in the classic style...

I really enjoyed Leviathan Wakes a few months back when I read it, and will definitely pick up book 2 as soon as it's out.

This is the comment I like to hear about a book! smile

Our library has ~20 copies so I put in a hold request for one book.

I finished "Eternal Light" by McCauley and was a bit underwhelmed and almost felt like giving it up a few times. I think this is one of his earlier works? The story really drags in a few places and could have been 100 pages shorter to be more taut and clean. However, I love his way out ideas of future space, aliens, human-machine interfacing, etc. I also enjoy that McCauley has strong and believable women characters leading this story (I have only read 3 books by McCauley but they all follow this approach). Personally, i would not recommend his "Eternal Light" book, but I do recommend reading "The Quiet War" and "Gardens of the Sun."
