Star Trek has always gone for sexy, even in the 60s. Here's some info on their costume designs and designer, William Ware Theiss:

The "Theiss Titillation Theory"—which claims that "the degree to which a costume is considered sexy is directly proportional to how accident-prone it appears to be"—is named after him. A key example of this idea in practice is the gynoid costume in the Star Trek episode "What are Little Girls Made Of?" in which the revealing top portion consists only of two crossing straps of material that connect in one piece to trousers, and—Theiss's personal favorite—the gown featured in the episode "Who Mourns for Adonais?": a backless dress in which the front of the dress was held up by the weight of the train which fell over the shoulder to the floor.

By accident prone, they mean accidentally falling off and/or revealing something.

Agree JM...ST has always been a family show orientated show. You dont have to have nudity because you think it might make the movie better. For proof of this watch Starship Troopers 2! biggrin

"Orientated"? Is that how they say "oriented" in the UK?

Oh yes, it's very confusing over here. When you wake up from a very good Friday night, chances are you will be very disorientated.

At first I thought it was a typo or a grammar slip, but no.

I hear people say that over here all the time too. It's just a longer version of the same thing.
