I guess cos it has swords in it you were afraid it may make you like that Skyrim 'rubbish' you weren't interested, but wait...it has bang-bang guns in it too, look at the video!

Yep, guns and loud noises with lots of flashy-flash-flashes for you, but no planes or helis though, sorry *sad face*.

another pearl of wisdom from the resident ignorant nope

samurai were NOT mercenaries, samurai were basically totally loyal to whoever they were serving under. you know why? because payment back then was in FOOD and if you abandoned your lord he cut off your clan/family food supply and banished you (or just killed you and your family outright). i don't know if shogun 2 uses the same money system as the first one, but every year you get an allotment of "koku". 1 koku was the amount of rice it would take to feed 1 person for a year. daimyo gave important samurai big fiefs that produced a lot of rice meaning easy living and lots of power.

those samurai without a lord were called ronin. they were mercenaries but they were not the typical "hired swords" most people would think. many of them had very high moral standards. read the story of the 47 ronin.

guns were totally rampant in the 1500's, the japanese probably had the best guns in the world at the time as they refined the hell out of them based on real combat experience. quite impressive. i've personally seen one example from the 1600's used by ninja when i visited the ninja museum in mie prefecture (old day iga province).

The term "Samurai" is basically derived from "saberu" - which means "to serve, support". ( samurai was first used during the Azuchi-Momoyama-period, around 1580-ish).

European medieval Knights could have learned a thing or two from the Samurai regarding loyalty. And during the time period corresponding with the Samurai mostly referred to in popular culture, all wars in Europe were fought with mercenary armies (for example during the 30 years war).

Anyway, this "stand-alone-expansion" wink looks interesting, though it does have that "Last Samurai-feeling, which hopefully is just a marketing ploy by CA, because that movie was a historical mess.

Unfortunately, I'm all immersed in Skyrim, which prevents me from checking out other games at the moment (like Assassin's Creed Revelations and the one mentioned here).

I agree with you about the Samurai were not mercenaries but most of what you said looks like opinion rather than fact. I think you should cite your sources from accredited sources yourself before making insults. (i.e. not from a wiki)

Do they send in the ninjas to attack them at night to take out the Samurai?
I've got the full game but have yet to spend time on it. Nice to know this is out there too in case I ever get around to it.
