Can't comment on the keyboard, I like my chiclet style Asus which doesn't even have a regular numpad, so nothing special for gaming. Fits nicely to the side of my wheel so I don't have to take it down. thumbsup
However, the best mouse I've had, by far, is my RAT 7. Better than my Logitech MX Revolution, (much) better than my MS X8 (sliders like sandpaper, horrible shape/size). Perfect shape, weight, adjustable dimensions, resolution changes on the fly, 3 mode switch, thumb and pinkie rests...just brilliant IMO. Buttons are extremely good, and although it doesn't have wheel tilt, the 2nd horizontal scroll wheel, nicely weighted, is even better. I had the RAT 9 at first, the wireless, but the battery life was terrible with just a day or two of life. Sold it off and got the RAT 7, which is the same mouse but wired and I couldn't be happier. Haven't liked a wired mouse in a very long time, but this one's worth it.

I have a Cyborg V5 keyboard and a Logitech G9x Mouse, I love being able to change my DPI on the fly, very useful for FPS's. No lcd screen on the Cyborg though, its backlit(adjustable), solid, and great to use for typing as well as gaming.

Get a keyboard that feels nice to type on. Note that I'm not concerned about extra frills like LCD screens or backlighting, just the feel of the keys...and I prefer mechanicals with tactility. N-key rollover (NKRO, often mistakenly termed as "anti-ghosting") would also be nice.

As for mice...it depends on what kind of grip you like. I'm a palm grip type who favors Logitech MX500-descended mice (currently using a G500), but if you like Razer, another Razer mouse would be a safe bet.

I love my Razor Copperhead mouse. I've had it for about 6 years now and it's going strong with no signs of wear.

However, I have one of the 1st gen Logitech G15 keyboards and it is starting to feel its age. The keys aren't as responsive, 1/3 of the back lighting is out and the black coating is starting to rub off the keys themselves. Though I've had that since it was released in 2005. It has been abused!

I'm going to get this when it's released:

Corsair Vengeance K90 Black/Metal USB Wired Gaming Mechanical Keyboard

No LCD screen frown But I love the idea of the smooth action mechanical keyboard, and it still has the Media controls, programmable keys and the switch to turn off the annoying Windows button. Plus, the casing is metal! biggrin

Keyboard (best buy): Sidewinder X4

Mouse (crazy high end): G700 or MIONIX NAOS 5000

Mouse (best buy): G400

NHF, but stay away from the crap called Razor.

Mechanical keyboard if you want / need them but don't forget they are loud.

Hi,

my old G15 died a few months ago. I replaced it with a G19, not cheap, but I love the color display (many possibilities there, I only scratched the surface yet). And the back-light, color can be freely chosen now.

It has less G-keys, but I didn`t use all of them anyway, so I think the smaller size is okay. Keys mussed be pressed harder though, but maybe I only was used to my old worn out G15.

Mouse is a G300, nothing special, but okay and good ergonomics for my taste.

The Cherry Red keys the K90 keyboard I mentioned above uses are less clicky, but they give no "bump", as in they are linear press.

Qpad just got a new keyboard, looks nice: http://www.corporate.qpad.se/modules/news/
(not sure if available in the US though).

For mouse, depends what kind of mouse you like, I like palm grip mouses, so for me I would go for the Logitech g9x with the "precision" grip''.

I have the Logi G9 mouse, it's great.

I have the latest-gen G15 keyboard with the mono LCD but nicer than the first gen. A lot cheaper than the color G19.

Gents, I just got my K90 Vengeance Keyboard in and I'm loving it! The little resistance Cherry Red switches are a dream to type on. Of course it takes a bit to get used to... The features are great and fit my needs perfectly. I'm not really missing the LCD screen of my old G15.

Hi All,

Not sure if it was just my specific Mobo but it had NO PS/2 Ports built in USB ONLY.. So I would check with the Mobo to find out if it has PS/2 Ports if NOT make sure your Mouse and keyboard are USB..

Luckily I had a USB Keyboard around when I was done putting my PC together and found out almost too late..NOt sure if this is the trend with new systems and they are Outting PS/2 Connections or was it just my specific board in anycase just check your Mobo to be sure before buying the Mice and Keyboard..

What did you end up with Magnum?
PS/2 is old tech and definitely being phased out.

Funny thing is, PS/2 is generally regarded as a better interface for keyboards. Interrupt-based (not polled), most PS/2 boards with full NKRO aren't limited to 6 keys + modifiers, that sort of thing. Except these days, it's actually more expensive to implement than USB from what I've heard, so they're omitting it.

Fortunately, all the reasonably feature-rich motherboards I've seen these days still sport at least one PS/2 port, and if even that ceases to be, there's plenty of PS/2-to-USB adapters floating around, particularly these "Blue Cube" adapters the other Geekhackers are fond of because they work with IBM Model Ms.

Just an FYI, the K90 has a 20 key roll over, plus a full matrix anti-ghosting and it's USB.

From what I've read, it's certainly possible to get full NKRO out of USB, but why it isn't more common is beyond me. Some methods are kind of hacky, though, like a keyboard presenting itself as 20 different keyboards at the logical level...

On top of that, some boards which do work nicely and have full NKRO on Windows, like the Noppoo Choc Mini, don't get along well with OS X for whatever reason. Yet other boards like the Microsoft SideWinder X4 might work fine on anything...

Keyboards from Keytronic - standard configuration and lifetime warranty. I've tried all kinds of brands including Cherry.
Keytronic KBs at Amazon

And after all the mice my cat could catch it the Logitech gaming mice that fit best and include a few extra buttons - where I use the thumb buttons for TIR Center & Pause.
This mouse

This mouse is OK but has two shells - decisions, decisions...
Have this mouse, too

I had a R.A.T. 5 and my pinky felt like it did not fit the mouse right. I prefer a wired mouse because I don't like the battery weight.
