Just wondering if anyone knows... i don't remember...

is Stronghold:

http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/stronghold

the same as Stronghold Crusader

http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/stronghold_crusader

meaning, is the crusader game an upgrade to the orginal... so not worth buying both, because it contains the same as Stronghold?

Yes they are the same. I have the original, and it isn't worth 3 dollars. The game gets boring real quick.
