Hello guys, i have a rather anoying issue and hope you guys maybe could help.
I run the game on an old singlecore AGP system, and when i get close to the ground, to a small area of palm trees, it is like someone just drops a bomb on the pc, and the FPS just plummets down to like 9 or less.
Even dropping the graphics down from Exelent, wich i normaly run the game in, to the lowest doesn't even help more then like 5/10 fps.

So i wonder if there maybe are some replacement textures for palm trees or if there is a way to just disable them?

Any help is very much apreciated.

There is a "forest" option in conf.ini, scaling from 1 to 3 afaik. Try a lower setting maybe ? Be sure to do this both for OpenGL and directX sections, if you don't know wich you run smile

Thank you, i saw one was on 2 and the other on 1. I now set them both on one and will test this.

The palm trees always cause a pretty big hit...even on top end 2011 systems they cause the FPS to drop off a fair bit. I'm not sure that Forrest= will have an effect. I believe that reduces the number of sprite based trees and reduces the number of layers for the "sections of forest" on the maps.

Hey there Ice! biggrin

Yup, noticed no difference. It allmost felt like it ran worse. But atleast we tried haha.
Oh well i'll just have to stay away from palm trees as much as i can hehe.

I hope, really hope that i can get myself a proper pc in the very near future. That would be nice.

forrest parameter in conf.ini Opengl section is for the autogenerated trees which appear on the *_field.tga textures and their placement is influenced by the *.tree 2 bit tga files
(irrc 0 is for no trees, 1 is trees without shadow, 2 is for normal trees with shadows, 3 is High Quality tree - my favourite)

the texture used by the palms is C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\***\3do\Flora\Palms\palm1o.tga
I made a mod for you which reduces the texture size of the palm trees:
