Hi all,

Been back after a long hiatus! For those who remember me, I used to be active in the Silent Hunter 3 forums here, I even contributed a small how-to guide for SH3 GWX3.0 installation (long time ago haha).....got busy with many things these past few years, but now am looking forward to spend time with some sims again! (specifically Steel Beasts Pro PE and DCS series)

My post is with regard to the fact that I need a new laptop system to handle the above-mentioned sims. Here's what I've configured:

eurocom.com

Eurocom Racer

Display 15.6" Full HD 1920x1080 matte, LED-backlit
Processor: Core i5-2410M (2.3 GHz, 3MB L3 cache, 32mm manufacturing process, DDR3-1066, 2 cores/4 logical threads)
Video Card: Radeon HD 6990M (2GB, GDDR5, 256-bit, 1120 Stream Processors)
Memory: 4GB (2x2GB, DDR3-1666, CL 7, Kingston HyperX)
Hard Drive: 120 GB SSD(MLC, Intel-320 Series, SATA-300, 25nm, Write: 130MB/s, Read: 270MB/s)

Total price: $1201 after tax, shipping, and 10% student discount

The rest includes (obviously) DVD-burner, fingerprint reader, webcam, b/g/n/ PCI-e wifi, 2 usb 3.0 and 2 usb 2.0 ports, etc.

Keep in mind these are highly configurable, if you go to their website there's alot of choices.

Recommendations? Tips? hints? Frankly I believe this to be an absolute steal-I've read the anandtech.com and all the other reviews regarding the Eurocom Racer-its reputedly very noisy, but otherwise a terrific machine. I've not found ANY laptop with a 6990M at below $1700 elsewhere, not to mention an SSD included. However, I've never seen or used a Eurocom product, so I'm a bit worried because it sounds too good to be true. What do you all think? Should I buy it? IF so, any changes to the specs I configured? Thanks for the help, and look forward to seeing you online again!

wow! That looks like a pretty sweet setup for $1200! I think the RAM will be fine since you have an SSD and 2GB of dedicated VRAM. The only thing I would look over is the CPU since you might not be able to OC it, and more and more games (especially sims) are liking GHz+cores. But if there's no better options then I don't see it being much of an issue. I'm not a laptop guy but that deal looks really good.

Also note that the battery life will probably be measured in minutes with games unless you plan to leave it plugged into the wall
