I am in the middle of Maverick training and have observed what I think are strange results.

I can launch from 10,000 to 20,000 feet altitudes using the Pre mode and get accurate kills. But when I switch to boresight mode and Vis mode the missile appears to go ballistic and I never hit a target.

At around 3,000 feet (in boresight or Vis modes)the missile --either because it does not have enough thrust or it is ballistic ---- dives into the ground about a mile in front of me. I know I have a good target lock but the accurate range of the missile is a mile or less.

Any experienced Maverick shooters that can tell me what is going on.

I usually go VIS and my procedure is the standard "Slew seeker into target area - TMS up to ground stab - slew seeker over target - TMS up to lock - wait until in range gate - pickle". First missile usually at max range without any incident.

Never had any issue of maverick falling short.

Could you youtube your event?

Btw, we are talking Falcon BMS right?

Cannot provide a video.

Yes I am talking about BMS 4.32

I have watched the Maverick training video several times and feel I understand it throughly. I have practiced the procedures for quite a while now and as I said the missiles seem to go ballistic even with a good lock.

However it is important to understand that I am firing them at low altitude ---less than 3,000 feet. I am not sure if they are suppose to fall that quickly to the ground or not from low altitudes.

In Lockon in the A-10 I can get kills from 2,500 feet altitudes and 8 to 10 miles. I expected to be able to do this in BMS also.

I'll boot up and make a test from 2000 ft or so.
brb

Edit:
Looks good frown
(AGM-65A Korea Vanilla)

Missile 1 gndstab and locked

Missile 2 same same

Missile 2 away

Missile 1 hit (I think)

Think we're down to bug hunting, what AGM65 version and what theater?

I am not sure what you have shown here since I do not know what your target was ----did you hit or fall short.

One more thing ---I was in a 7 degree dive in each case that I tried this shot. Since the missile is aligned with the nose of the plane before firing possibly it does not have time to correct its initial launch angle and start flying toward the target and thus hits the ground. If the maneuverability of the missile is slow and clumsy that could happen.

I will retry the shot and level my aircraft after locking the target and before firing to give it a better launch angle to see if it works better.

Ok ---I seem to have fixed the problem.

The boresight crosshair is fixed onto the flightpath marker until it is locked onto a target. So a low level attack requires a slight dive to put the flightpath marker and boresight marker on to the target.

So this time I went into a slight dive at about 3,000 feet and locked the BS marker on to a target. Then I pulled back up to level flight and then fired the Maverick. I got a perfect hit at 2 or 3 miles away.

So apparently the missile is slow to correct its trajectory and if it starts out pointed several degrees downward when at low altitudes it does not have time to correct itself and maneuver back on plane to the target and hits the ground.

Great news you got it running.
Personally I never ever use boresight, for moving targets I go VIS and occationally slapping the G model on a building or so I do the PRE stuff.
