Hey guys,
Just wanted to post some teaser shots for a new 6-11 player counter-piracy mission I am putting the finishing touches on! This is quite a unique one -- pushing the limits of what can be done without modding. Also, something I like to do in my mission making is try to create scenarios that you'll never experience in any other 'shooter' games -- this is one.

Just off the coast of Utes, Knighthawks and RHIBs move in to investigate a vessel running without lights. Both the Knighthawks and RHIBs have custom banks of spotlights for scanning the ocean.

An erroneous report of a weapon being spotted. These are just civilians... keep your finger off that trigger.

SAM launch! This mission features a MWS, which can detect missile plumes and warn the pilots.

Y'all having a good evening? Just stopping by.

I've got your 'tactical flashlights' right here... Let's just take a look inside.

Firing the M107 from the helicopter door. Aerial platform operations are tough in ArmA. Remains to be seen how well this will work in multiplayer.

Hope you're excited for this one!

Wow. Sounds cool, Tao. Can't wait to try it out.

Hmmm, so who will be using the M107 <looks at Meatshield suspiciously>

Maybe those guys are shooting a SAM because of all the BRIGHT lights on the helo. smile

Due to timezones and work, I fear this is yet another mission I'll miss, but it looks pretty cool. I know there's some limits that you have to live with in the game, but having done a bunch of real VBSS/boarding covering, it's pretty much all NVGs and lasers. No search lights.

But the M107 from the door is a really nice touch.

Gator, maybe on a weekend we can get a few folks together to accomodate your schedule. I think it's getting to be that time again where we do a Saturday Warfare anyways.

Perhaps. I'm still in a syllabus right now, so I have an unpredictable schedule and have to study at times. The week before Thanksgiving, I started with a 0530 brief on Monday and by the end of the week I had 3 nights in a row of midnight sims. Couple that with a girlfriend who still doesn't have a job to distract her and the free time ends up going away.

But I'm still around, at least on the boards, and will try and play when I can. Even a several-human player assault in Evo can be lots of fun.

All of the spotlights and nav lights can be toggled on and off. I have them turned on in the screenshots to show off my scripting and attaching work biggrin

Though, I've often been choosing to require players to use visible lights lately, since ArmA's model for NVGs is less "NVG" and more "full daylight but green, with a lot of bloom." Makes for a nice environment, as well.

I'm with you. That's why I use the manual NVG aperture addon. It takes a lot of the bloom-to-darkness out of the game. I really wish BIS would fix the eye recovery time in the game. It doesn't take that long to readjust your eyes to night after taking goggles off and modern goggles react very quickly to light changes (pretty much instantly), so the in game delayed NVG darkness is annoying and not realistic.

This mission is updated and ready to provide a better experience. It is now slightly earlier, the spotlights work, all helicopters have been equipped with a very effective automatic flare dispenser (it's really cool), groups are set to Heli+RHIB hunter-killer teams with marked leaders, and I have made the enemies much, much deadlier. Everything is tested and working on a dedicated server, including the lights, MWS, and sniper.

I will send this off soon.
