I have to say that if people are disputing whether the FO project is a scam, then something is terribly wrong with FO. It's kind of like electromagnetism: just because you don't explicitly know what's happening on the inside, you can still tell something about the inside based on what's happening on the outside. Whether it's a scam or not, the plausibility shows just how badly things are going.
The problem is, back when they started FO would release info to their Area 51 members, then publicly release the same info 2-3 months later. So buying Area 51 just got you "early access". And at the time they were releasing pretty regularly (monthly, I think) developer diaries telling about what they were doing. But for the last 3-4 years or so, they have pretty much stopped releasing info to the general public. Every couple of months they'll mention that they've put some new info in Area 51, but they never seem to make it public anymore... so now the only way to get any real updates is to pay.
